Kerry Adams
Through her background as a chartered accountant, investment banker and financial consultant, Kerry brings invaluable experience to her role as chair of the Investor Education Fund. Her previous experience includes OSC commissioner and director, past chair and member of the OSC audit committee, independent member of the Bank of Nova Scotia Master Trust Committee, member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Standards Oversight Committee and past member of the investment advisory committee at the University of Toronto. top

Darin Ahing
Darin is legal counsel with Manulife Financial's Canadian pension operations. Prior to joining Manulife, he practiced corporate commercial law for seven years in Toronto and consulted with the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association. He obtained his law degree from the University of Windsor and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994. Most recently, he completed his MBA at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. top

Ann Anderson
Ann is manager of pensions, benefits and payroll at Sony of Canada and she is responsible for pension and benefits for Sony employees. Ann has a degree in geography from the University of Waterloo and she is a member of the CPA. top

Michael Annable
Michael is the vice-president human resources, information technology & administration for Linamar Corporation in Guelph, Ontario. Linamar employs over 9,000 people globally in 33 manufacturing facilities, three research and development centers and four sales offices in Canada, United States, Mexico, Germany, Hungary, and Japan. Michael has worked in the fast-paced automotive industry for over 12 years and has his CHRP designation. top

Lori Bak
Lori is assistant vice-president, marketing and education with Sun Life Financial, Group Retirement Services. Prior to joining Sun Life in 2003, Lori was publisher of the Canadian Investment Review and associate publisher of Benefits Canada and Avantages magazines, part of Rogers Publishing. She is an award-winning business journalist and former editor of Benefits Canada magazine. Lori is an accomplished writer, editor and speaker on Canadian pension issues, and is an active member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM). top

Darryl Barclay
Darryl is currently the senior director, human resources, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc., with responsibility for pension and benefits, compensation, employment, and training and development. PotashCorp has over 5000 employees and is the world’s largest fertilizer company with operations in Canada, U.S., Trinidad, Chile and Brazil. Darryl graduated from the University of Regina with a bachelor of administration. top

Paul Bates
Paul is currently a member of the board of directors for the Investor Education Fund, a part-time commissioner at the Ontario Securities Commission and part-time faculty member at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management in the faculty of marketing. He serves on and/or chairs numerous boards of directors including a variety of not-for-profit organizations. Paul has expereince at the helm of a number of leading Canadian brokerage firms including Charles Schwab Canada. He recently received an Outstanding Teacher Award from the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management. top

Alan Black
Alan is manager, pension and benefits at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. He is responsible for the day-to-day administration of three pension plans, and the life and health benefits for the university. top

Donald Brean
Donald is professor of finance and economics in the Rotman School of Management at The University of Toronto. He was formerly associate dean of the faculty of management and director of commerce programs. He has published extensively in books, academic journals and business publications. His current research interests include international financial integration, factors influencing international investment, the development of national policy in view of the increasing mobility of capital and structural adjustment in economies in transition. Professor Brean holds graduate degrees from the University of Toronto and The London School of Economics. top

Gary Brewer
Gary is the vice-president, finance and administration at York University, where he has been since 1995. Prior to joining York, he held a number of senior financial positions at Ontario Hydro. Gary’s portfolio covers a wide range of responsibilities including finance, human resources and labour relations, facilities planning and construction, campus services, business operations, and internal audit. His responsibilities also include York’s pension plan – a hybrid plan with assets of about $900 million. Gary holds a bachelor of applied science, industrial engineering and a master of business administration from the University of Toronto. top

Paul Cameron
Paul is manager, treasury operations at Ford of Canada. He is responsible for banking, pensions, employee compensation and benefits. He has been with Ford for 17 years. He has a bachelor of applied science degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA from York University. top

Michael Campbell
Michael is director, Group Retirement Services Marketing. Group Retirement Services is a division of Great-West, London Life and Canada Life. He is responsible for the development of product sales and service support materials ranging from member education tools to assisting the division in communicating core messages in multiple mediums, to a variety of audiences. Michael joined London Life’s employee benefits sales and service division in 1990 after graduating from Laurentian University with an honours bachelor of commerce. top

Andrée Charest
Andrée is vice-president of sales, Group Savings & Retirement, Standard Life and is responsible for the development and management of the sales network for the line of business across Canada. Andrée joined Standard Life in 1995 as a management associate for Group Consulting Services. She has held the position of strategic implementation manager and regional sales manager for the Group Savings & Retirement line of business. Andrée has worked in the financial industry for over 20 years. She holds a B.Sc in actuarial science and is a fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the American Society of Actuaries. She is also the current president of the Actuaries Club of Montréal. top

John Clarke
John is the treasurer and assistant comptroller at Syncrude Canada Ltd. With the company since 1983, he has also held the roles of manager, treasury services and manager, information management. John is currently one of two western representatives on the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ board of directors. He has also been actively involved with the Institute of Internal Auditors. John has an MBA from the University of Alberta and is a chartered accountant. top

Suzanne Côté
Suzanne joined Fidelity Retirement Services in September 2003 as vice-president, sales and relationship management, Eastern Canada. She has more than 18 years experience in the Canadian financial services industry. Since 1995, Suzannne has been involved in business development and client service specifically targeted towards Eastern Canada’s institutional investors. Before joining Fidelity, she was most recently with State Street Global Advisors as a principal and regional director. Suzanne has a bachelor of science, an MBA and is a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. top

Mike is responsible for directing the development and management of Taylor Steel Inc.’s employee relations, recruitment and selection, training and development, wages and benefits, and health and safety. He obtained his bachelor of commerce from McMaster University in 1982, his CMA certificate in 1985 and completed the executive human resources program at Queen’s University in 1998. top

Barbara Coulter
Barb is a partner at Integra Capital and oversees the ongoing management of all aspects of their group retirement plan services relating to administration, systems and client relationship management. She has over 18 years of experience in the retirement services industry and has been with Integra for 16 years. Barb has a BA in mathematics from the University of Guelph. top

Barb Curlew
Barb is manager of finance and administration at the Public Service Employee Benefits Division of the Office of Human Resources, Province of New Brunswick. On a day-to-day basis she gets involved in plan interpretation and communication issues. She also serves on a pension committee for a defined benefit plan. For the last eight years, Barb have served as a pension committee member on the pension plan for part-time and seasonal employees of the Province of New Brunswick. top

Janice Davidge
Janice is the director of human resources at the corporate office of CCL Industries Inc., a leading packager of consumer products and manufacturer of labels and containers with 40 global manufacturing facilities. Janice has over 20 years senior experience as a human resource generalist in the manufacturing and high tech sectors. Her responsibilities include setting HR strategy and supporting business growth through effective HR leadership. top

Jon Day
Jon is vice-president, relationship management for Fidelity Retirement Services. He is responsible for all post-sales plan sponsor service and satisfaction activities including relationship management, and transition services. This includes retirement program implementation, employee education and communications, and ongoing account management. Jon joined Fidelity in April 2002 as director of client projects within Fidelity Intermediary Services Co. He holds a BA in business from the Richard Ivey School of Business, and a BA in administrative and commercial studies from the University of Western Ontario. top

Mary De Paoli
Mary is vice-president, Group Retirement Services at Sun Life Financial. Prior to this post, she held the position of vice-president, customer relationships and marketing, national accounts, with Sun Life Financial, Group Retirement Services. Mary joined Sun Life Financial in 1999 as assistant vice-president, national sales and marketing. Prior to this, she was director, product development and marketing for Canada Trust Group Services. Mary is a member of Benefits Canada's editorial advisory board. In 2003, she received the prestigious designation as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40, an honour given to a select group who have made their mark before age 40. top

Victor Dodig
Victor is president and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management (Canada) Co., which he joined in September 2002. Victor is responsible for running the day-to-day activities in Canada and is a member of our North American operating committee. Prior to this appointment, he was a managing director at Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. in Toronto, New York and London. He also worked with McKinsey & Co. in their Toronto and Boston offices. top

Kevin Dougherty
Kevin is executive vice-president, Group Benefits and Retirement Services at Sun Life Financial. Prior to this appointment, Kevin has served in a variety of senior roles within Sun Life Financial including most recently as vice-president of Group Retirement Services, and from 1996 - 2001 as vice-president of Group Benefits. With more than 20 years of experience in the group pension and benefits industry, he is actively involved as a member of CPBI and ACPM, the CLHIA taskforce and the National Quality Institute. Kevin holds a masters of business administration from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. top

Michael Doughty
Michael is vice-president, Canadian Pensions with overall accountability for the leadership of Manulife Financial’s group savings and retirement business in Canada. Mike joined Manulife in 1992, and held a number of senior marketing positions in both Canadian and corporate operations before joining Canadian Pensions in March, 2003. He is a graduate of Queen’s University and serves on the board of directors for Manulife Canada Limited and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. top

Elizabeth Gaffney
Elizabeth is the director and general manager of John Gaffney Construction Company Ltd., in Statford, Ontario. She has been involved in the construction industry for almost 30 years and has been involved with the company benefit plan for 20 years. Elizabeth has seen her company pension plan through the change from a hybrid plan to a DC plan (employer funded) with a Group RRSP (employee funded). Elizabeth is a professional engineer and has an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University. top

Peter Greenhough
Peter is a national account manager for Benefits Canada and its sister publications Avantages and Canadian Investment Review. His responsibilities include the management, development and co-ordination of marketing initiatives for the publications' clients, including advertising, sponsorship programs, research and custom publishing products. Peter has been with Rogers Media for 14 years. top

Wayne Harrop
Wayne is responsible for global pensions, benefits and savings plans for RBC Financial Group. As such, he is involved in all pension and benefit due diligence activities related to mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. Professionally, Wayne is a member of the Canadian Bankers Association’s Pension and Benefits Standing Committee and ACPM. He has over 30 years experience in the pensions and benefits field with over 25 years in the forestry industry at Abitibi Consolidated. top

Paula Holden
Paula has been with Nortel Networks since 1985. Her current role is director of Global Employee Benefits. She has responsibility for all benefit and retirement plan design, strategy, and governance for the 36,000 Nortel Networks employees. Prior to her current role she had benefits responsibility for U.S., and North America, preceded by a variety of corporate and regional roles in health and wellness. Paula holds a master of public health, and a master of business administration. She is a member of the Council on Employee Benefits. top

Linda Horas
Linda is manager of payroll and pensions for Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. She is a member of the pension committee and is responsible for the administration of the retirement plans for Canadian and U.S. team members. top

Jeff Horbal
Jeff is vice-president, institutional investments at Fidelity Retirement Services. In this capacity, Jeff oversees sales and marketing, data and fund analysis, and client service for Fidelity’s defined benefit disciplines. He joined Fidelity in 1998 with 15 years of experience in institutional equity trading, corporate finance, personal financial planning and mutual funds. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor of commerce, and has completed several executive and investment management courses in addtition to the Canadian Securities Course and Canadian Options Course. top

Nurez Jiwani
Nurez is the director of regulatory coordination at the Ontario Securities Commission and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO). He is also currently co-chair of the Joint Forum of Financial Market Regulators’ Committee on Capital Accumulation Plans, chair of the Pension Plan Governance Committee of the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) and chair of CAPSA's Strategic Planning Committee. Until recently, Nurez was director of policy and communications at FSCO. He holds a bachelor of science in economics and statistics and an MBA. top

Joan Johannson
Joan recently joined Integra Group Retirement Services as the managing director. She has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry and has been frequently published in leading trade journals and spoken at industry events. Joan is a graduate of both the University of Toronto and Queen's University. She is an active member within CPBI and ACPM and on the Benefits Canada editorial advisory board. top

Robert Kwong
Robert is the taxation manager and corporate vice-president of Owens Corning Canada. His duties involve participating in the pension investment committee. Robert received his MBA from the University of Notre Dame, a B.Sc. from Indiana University, and is a chartered accountant. He is a member of the Toronto Tax Executive and the Canadian Tax Foundation. top

Bill Kyle
Bill is senior vice-president at Group Retirement Services. He has been the senior leader of the company’s group retirement business since 1996 and was appointed to his current position in January 2003. He has been responsible for the Prudential of America, Great-West Life and Canada Life integrations. Bill is active in the industry and is currently chair of the joint CLHIA/FSCO pension committee, chair of the CLHIA pension committee and was an industry representative on the Joint Forum of Financial Market Regulators Capital Accumulation Plan Guideline working committee. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo. top

Robert Landry
As vice-president, operations and legal counsel for Magna Services Inc., Rob is part of the senior leadership team providing human resources, IT, financial and other shared services to the Magna International Group of Companies. He is also chief labor counsel for Magna International Inc. Previously, he practiced labour relations and employment law with Filion, Wakely and Thorup at their Toronto and London, Ontario offices. Rob holds an honours bachelor of physical and health education from the University of Toronto, and a LLB from the University of Western Ontario. top

He has 20 years of experience in U.S. and Canadian pensions in the consulting and insurance industry. Bruce MacDonald
Bruce is one of the founding shareholders and a director at Integra Capital. Before joining the firm as an active partner, he was president of Boyle Midway Canada, a major manufacturing and consumer goods subsidiary of American Home Products Corp. of New York. Bruce has a bachelor of commerce from Mount Allison University. top

Jim MacDonald
Before coming to Benefits Canada, Jim was the managing editor of Advisor.ca, part of The ADVISOR Group at Rogers Media. A journalist since 1987, Jim has worked in a variety of editorial positions including reporter/editor of Global Stratagems, the media unit of the mutual fund company Global Strategy, as well as reporter/editor with The Canadian Press-Broadcast News and as wire service editor with Standard Broadcast News. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto and has a broadcasting diploma from Centennial College in Toronto. top

Brian Mallard
Brian is the chair of Advocis, the merger organization of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners and the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. A veteran financial advisor, Brian has earned several industry designations, including the Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Life Underwriter designations. He is also president of the advisory firm Brian Mallard & Associates of Saskatoon, which sponsors a defined contribution pension plan. top

Paul Martin
Paul is a staff representative for the B.C. Government & Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) which he joined in 1984 as a social policy researcher. Since 1987 he has worked exclusively on pensions and pension policy. His roles have included secretary to the BCGEU Provincial Executive Pension Committee, trustee of the BCGEU and Public Service Pension Plans and director of the B.C. Investment Management Corporation. Professionally, Paul is a member of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute and the International Foundation of Employee Benefits. He has a bachelor of arts and a diploma in public sector management. top

Kevin Martino
Kevin joined UBS Global Asset Management in February 2002 and is responsible for the firm’s business development activities in Ontario. In addition to his work in support of key consultant relationships, Kevin maintains a direct role in marketing the products and services of UBS Global to pension plan sponsors and other institutional investors. Kevin comes to UBS Global from the consulting firm of Towers Perrin where he was a senior asset consultant. In that capacity, he provided investment counsel to pension and endowment funds. Kevin holds a combined honours bachelor degree in political science and history from McMaster University. top

Emmanuel Matte
Emmanuel is a director at UBS Global Asset Management. He joined the company in 2003 as part of the Client Relationship Management (CRM) team in the Montreal office. Prior to UBS, Emmanuel worked as a pension actuary and asset management consultant in Montreal, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York for major international actuarial consulting firms. He obtained the chartered financial analyst designation in 2001, his fellowship designation of the Society of Actuaries in 2002 and his fellowship designation of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries should be awarded this year. Doreen Mattson
Doreen is pension advisor with EnCana Corporation. Her responsibilities include design and management of the pension and savings plans, member education and communication. She recently implemented new pension and investment plans and a financial education and retirement planning program following the merger of PanCanadian Petroleum Limited and Alberta Energy in 2002. Doreen has been with the company for 25 years and has held various roles in human resources. She has a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Alberta and an information systems management certificate from the University of Calgary. top

Shirley McIntyre
Shirley is the director of pensions at TransAlta Corporation where she is currently responsible for pension investments, governance, board reporting with oversight responsibilities for design and communication. She is chair of the ACPM Alberta Council and a member of the ACPM board. top

Diana McNiven
Diana is responsible for total compensation programs for IBM Canada, encompassing cash compensation, benefits, and pension programs. She is also a member of the Compensation Research Council of the Conference Board of Canada. Diana has an MBA and 18 years of experience with IBM Canada in both finance and human resources. top

Tricia Moore
Tricia joined Rogers Media in 2001 as conference manager. Currently she oversees conferences within the Financial and Healthcare Services Group. She brings to her position more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality and retail industries with an emphasis on special events planning, marketing and customer service evaluation. She is a graduate of Queen’s University. top

Jan Neiman
Jan is manager of benefits and pensions at Rothmans, Benson & Hedges. In this role, she manages traditional and flex benefit plans and both DB and DC pension plans including administration, communications, education, design and implementation. Jan was responsible for the implementation of an interactive web-based pension site, which received the Benefits Canada communications award in 1999. She completed the CEBS program in 1997 and the fellowship programs in 1999 and 2001. top

Rosemarie Pedro
Rosemarie is the senior manager, compensation and benefits, for Coca-Cola Bottling Company (CCBC). Rosemarie joined CCBC in 1994 and currently manages all aspects of CCBC’s benefits, pensions and compensation plans. She is also a member of CCBC’s pension committee and employee savings and investment plan committee. Rosemarie has an honours BA from the University of Toronto, a diploma in foreign language, literature and culture studies from the University of Coimbra in Portugal and is a member of the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute. top

Louise Pellerin-Lacasse
Louise is vice-president, marketing, Group Savings & Retirement at Standard Life and leads the strategic development and ongoing management of all products and services related to group pension arrangements. She joined Standard Life in 1979 and has worked in various departments including corporate actuarial, group consulting services and has held the position of vice-president, product development for the Individual and Group Savings & Retirement lines of business. Louise holds a B.Sc. in mathematics from Université de Montréal and is a fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the American Society of Actuaries. top

Greg Poster
Greg has several years of experience managing, designing and communicating pension plans/retirement planning, total compensation and benefit plans within the financial, hi-tech, consulting, electronics and health care industries. He is currently engaged in HR consulting projects as president of GP Consulting Services. Up until recently Greg was manager, compensation, benefits and pensions for Shoppers Drug Mart Inc. He has a bachelor of commerce from Concordia University and is a Certified Human Resources Professional. top

Marc Poupart
Marc is director, pension administration at the Hudson’s Bay Company. In this role he oversees pension plan administration of multiple plans, both DB and DC. His responsibilities include overseeing pension governance and reporting to the pension committee of the board of directors and developing communication and education programs for close to 40,000 members. Marc’s other areas of responsibility include pension and benefit accounting, senior executive benefits management and taxation advisory. He is a chartered accountant. top

Shirley Powell
Shirley is manager, compensation and benefits at Novopharm Limited where she is responsible for compensation, benefits, pension, payroll and employee relations areas. Her primary responsibilities are plan design and development in all of the above areas. With her expertise in compensation strategies, Shirley’s industry experience includes pharmaceutical, real estate, insurance, and food manufacturing. She is a graduate of York University with a business degree and her industry designations include CHRP and CCP. top

Roger Renaud
Roger is senior vice-president, marketing and sales, Group Savings & Retirement and is a member of the executive committee for Standard Life's Canadian operations. He is responsible for the conception, development and management of the marketing and sales strategies for the Group Savings & Retirement line of business. Roger is also senior vice-president and director of Standard Life Investment's (SLI) Board. Roger holds a B.Sc. in actuarial science from Université de Laval and is a CFA. He has also completed the program for management development at Harvard Business School. top

Blair Richards
Blair is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Halifax Port International Longshoremen's Association and Halifax Employers Association multi-employer pension and health plans. A former labour trustee and board chairman, he sits on numerous industry committees. Jean-Pierre Rondeau
Jean-Pierre is administrator of the faculty pension plan at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He has concentrated so far on day-to-day operations and will soon become involved in a major effort to overhaul communications with members. top

Rick Schwartz
Rick is director, compensation and beneftis with Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. He is responsible for all compensation, benefits and retirement programs for HP's Canadian employees. He has been with the company for 31 years. He also is a member of the Compensation Research Centre of The Conference Board of Canada. He has an M.Sc. in electrical engineering. top

Anna Sharratt
Anna has been associate editor of Benefits Canada since 2002. Her responsibilities include editing contributed material, writing features about pensions, benefits and investment issues for the magazine and Web site and assisting in conference agenda development. Barry Shea
Barry is currently the vice-president of GRS Distribution and is responsible for the overall sales and service functions of GRS in Canada. Barry has held senior positions in both the group life and health and group retirement fields with North American Life and Great-West Life. He has also spent three years as an employee benefits consultant with a large national consulting firm in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Barry joined Great-West Life in 1977 as a life and health underwriter. He has a bachelor of commerce in economics from St. Mary’s University. top

Bill Sipes
Bill is the marketing director for Manulife's Canadian pension operations. He is responsible for product development and marketing of group savings products. Bill has been in the insurance industry for 21 years with the last nine focused on the group savings market. He holds a BA in economics, and has completed the FLMI, ACS, IFIC, and RPA programs. top

Brian Smith
Brian is the executive director at the Public Employees Benefits Agency which administers eight pension plans and 15 benefit programs for public sector employees in Saskatchwan. Becky is pensions manager at Telus where she is responsible for B.C. and central Canada management employees as well as the executive pension plan. The management pension program offers flexible pension arrangements for a defined benefit and defined contribution plan. Terri is the president of the Investor Education Fund, leading the development of programs, resources and services that support investor decision-making and the longer-term goal of increasing financial literacy among the investing public.
