Pensions

Peter Sharpe is promoted to president and chief executive officer at Cadillac Fairview Corporation in Toronto. Cadillac Fairview is the real estate arm of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board. Sharpe has 16 years of experience with the company, most recently as executive vice-president overseeing all property-level operations in each of the company's five property portfolios.

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board announces two appointments to its board of directors. John Lane, prior to his retirement, was senior vice-president, investments, with Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada in Toronto. Ralph Lean is a senior partner with the law firm Cassels, Brock & Blackwell LLP.

Investment

AIC Group of Funds in Burlington, Ont. announces three appointments. James Cole joins as senior vice-president and portfolio manager. Previously, he was a portfolio manager with Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc. in Toronto, where he managed Canadian equities for institutional clients. Randy LeClair is promoted to vice-president and portfolio manager. Previously, he held the position of senior analyst with AIC's portfolio management team. Michele Calpin joins as vice-president, U.S. equities. She comes from McKinsey & Company, where she was a leader of the firm's corporate finance and strategy practice.

Richard Knowles joins Sceptre Investment Counsel Ltd. in Toronto as chief operating officer and manager of fixed income investments. Knowles comes from Jones Heward Investment Management.

Brent Sutton joins Phillips, Hager & North as vice-president and institutional portfolio manager. He comes from SEI Investments.

Luc Bertrand joins the Montreal Exchange (ME) as president and chief executive officer. He comes from National Bank Financial where he was vice-president and managing director with the institutional sales group. Bertrand has served on the governing committee of the Montreal Exchange since 1992, and has been on its executive committee since 1994. He has acted as chairman of the ME's governing committee since 1998.

Hansberger Global Investors announces the resignation of James Chaney, chief investment officer on the value team. Thomas Hansberger, chairman and chief executive officer, assumes Chaney's responsibilities.

Leonard Sanders joins Chartwell Investment Partners as portfolio manager. He comes from Needham and Company, where he was a security analyst.

Mulvihill Capital Management Inc. announces the departure of Michael Sirola, vice-president, fixed income. Don Biggs, vice-president, structured products, assumes Sirola's duties until a replacement is found.

Andrew Pyle joins Scotiabank in Toronto as vice-president and senior financial markets economist. He comes from ABN AMRO Asset ManagementCanada in Toronto, where he was chief strategist. In addition, he co-founded the market analytics firm PATH International.

John Griffin joins PanAgora Asset Management in Boston, Mass. as equity investment manager. Previously, he was a principal and quantitative research strategist at Boston Partners Asset Management in Boston. Also at PanAgora, Michael Clark joins as a fixed income investment manager. He comes from the Royal Bank of Canada in Toronto, where he was an interest rate product analyst.

Paola Pasquale joins Desjardins-Laurentian Life Assurance and The Imperial Assurance Company as vice-president, sales strategies, group network. In her new role, Pasquale will be responsible for marketing group insurance and group retirement products, strategic positioning and services and coordinating the strategic planning for the group network.

Oded VanHam joins Fraser Group in Toronto as pharmaceutical industry analyst. VanHam recently completed his master's of business administration. In his new role, he will monitor trends in Canadian and international pharmaceutical development and identify and research products most likely to have a major cost benefit impact on employer-sponsored drug plans.

Heather Lee joins LeadingEdge Payroll Group Inc. as director, marketing and communications. Previously, she was principal of Trident Public Relations, specializing in the human resources, payroll and technology sectors.

Aon Consulting announces three appointments. In Toronto, Frank Lee joins the health and benefits strategies practice as senior consultant. David Pitre joins the communication practice in Toronto as senior consultant. He comes from Towers Perrin in Toronto, where he was a communication consultant, technology leader. Bryan Grom joins the Winnipeg office as vice-president, with responsibility for management and operations of the Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, Ont. offices. He comes from CIBC Mortgages Inc.
