Benefits
William M. Mercer Limited announces three promotions. Dean Connor is promoted to chief executive officer
and chairman of Mercer's Canadian operations, based in Toronto. Connor was responsible for several of the
firm's practices, and previously was central region head in Toronto and Western region head in Calgary. Dan
McCaw is promoted to chief executive officer of Mercer in the U.S. McCaw will be based in New York City.
Previously, he was chairman and chief executive officer of the Canadian operation. In Montreal, Bernard
Morency assumes responsibility for the firm's global benefits practices, including retirement, healthcare
and group benefits, administration and investment consulting.
Les Gombik and Linda Bellio join the client management group of Hewitt Associates. Gombik, currently
responsible for business development in the Calgary office, comes from UNUM, where he was a senior sales
consultant. Bellio heads up Hewitt's new marketing and public relations function in Toronto. She was
formerly manager of national communications with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Pension
Linda King joins Aon Consulting in Toronto as senior pension administrator in the retirement strategies
practice. She comes from ICI Canada Inc., where she was pension supervisor. At Aon Consulting in Winnipeg,
Ross Dunlop joins as senior consultant in the retirement strategies and investment consulting practices. He
comes from Loring Ward Investment Counsel, where he was a private client manager.
Investment
Royal Trust Global Securities Services announces two promotions in its global securities lending and
finance unit. As head of global trading, Susan Pike will oversee the trading desks in Toronto, London and a
soon-to-be-opened desk in Sydney, Australia. Previously, Pike was director, global operations. Yvonne
Wyllie is named head of business development and is responsible for business development and strategic
relationship management initiatives for borrowers globally. Previously, she was head of global trading.
Gordon Henderson is promoted to director, portfolio management at Bonham & Co. Inc. Asset Management in
Toronto. He currently manages the Bonham & Co. Canadian Small Companies Fund. Previously, he worked at
HSBC in London, U.K. and Toronto as an investment banker and equity analyst.
John Cieslak joins the Toronto Stock Exchange as senior vice-president and chief information officer. He
comes from National Bank Financial, where he was vice-president, information technology and chief
information officer.
Robert Weston is promoted to national director of marketing and client services at State Street Global
Advisors (SSgA) Canada. Weston joined SSgA in 1997 as regional director of marketing and client services.
In his new role, Weston assumes responsibility for business development and client servicing in Canada.
Also at SSgA, Suzanne Côté joins as regional director of marketing and client services for Quebec
and the Atlantic provinces. Previously, she was vice-president, marketing and servicing for Quebec and the
Maritimes with YMG Capital Management Inc. in Montreal. She assumes the regional responsibilities of the
former director of marketing, Denis Sabourin, who was promoted to head of State Street's Dubai office.
AdminSource Inc. in Oakville, Ont. announces three appointments. Ken Leuyer joins as director of sales and
service. He comes from Gilmore, where he was vice-president of business development. In his new role,
Lecuyer is a member of the executive team with responsibility for sales, marketing and relationship
management for third-party administrative services in the Canadian investment fund industry. Simon Taylor
joins as director of finance. He comes from State Street, where he led the investment accounting and
financial reporting functions. His new responsibilities include fund accounting, trust accounting, taxes
and corporate accounting. Reggie Alvares is promoted to director of operations with overall responsibility
for daily transaction processing, including imaging, call centre services, dealer support services and
quality assurance.
Guylaine Saucier is appointed chair of a new corporate governance committee created by the Toronto Stock
Exchange, the Canadian Venture Exchange and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Saucier is
chair of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and sits on the boards of several Canadian firms. Under her
leadership, the committee will review the current state of corporate governance, compare Canadian and
international best practices, and make recommendations for changes.
