Investment

Wendy Brodkin joins Goodman Institutional Investments in Toronto as president. She comes from Gluskin Sheff & Associates in Toronto, where she was involved in sales, marketing and client services.

Michael Taylor joins Royal Trust Global Securities Services in Toronto as director, offshore funds. He comes from State Street, where he was assistant vice-president, offshore mutual funds.

Scott Blair joins Integrated Asset Management Corp. in Toronto as executive vice-president. Blair was managing partner and co-founder of Proteus Performance Management Inc.

At Northern Trust Global Advisors in Stamford, Conn., Michael Gallimore is appointed chairman and chief executive officer. He most recently served as executive vice-president and chief investment officer of Northern Trust Global Advisors, Northern Trust's manager of managers investment subsidiary, and as president and chief executive officer of NT Global Advisors in Canada. Gallimore is a past president of the Pension Investment Association of Canada and past chairman of the former Pension Commission of Ontario's investment advisory committee.

Northern Trust Global Investments in Chicago appoints Orie Dudley to chief investment officer. Most recently, Dudley was chief executive officer and acting chief investment officer with Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, Ltd. in Edinburgh, Scotland. Also at Northern Trust Global Investments in Chicago, Kevin Connellan joins as director of equity trading. He comes from Schroder and Co. Inc., where he was director of institutional equities for the midwestern U.S. Eric Schweitzer joins the firm in the newly created position of senior vice-president, director of mutual fund distribution, product management and client services. He comes from US Bancorp in Minneapolis, where he was managing director of mutual funds.

Mike Warcholak joins Northern Trust Company Canada in Toronto as relationship manager for Canadian-based institutional clients. He comes from Fidelity Group Pensions Canada in Toronto, where he was an implementation manager.

Robert Ciamarro is the president of Structured Asset Management, a newly created institutional portfolio management firm. Previously, he was with Canagex Inc.

John Feely joins PanAgora Asset Management Inc. in Boston, as head of consultant relations. Previously, Feely worked as a principal for the consultant relations group at State Street Advisors in Boston.

Andrew Ballinger joins TAL Institutional Management as a member of the global asset allocation team in the Hong Kong office. He comes from Schroders Asia Securities, where he served as chief Asia equity strategist.

Paul Baran is the new lead manager of MacKenzie Financial Corporation's Industrial America Fund. Currently, Baran is a senior vice-president and will continue to manage the Universal U.S. Blue Chip Fund. In addition, he will continue to act as co-manager of the Universal Select Managers Fund.

Jacques Ménard is appointed chair of the board of directors of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada in Toronto. He is president of the Bank of Montreal Group of Companies. He replaces Charles Winograd, president, chief operating officer and director with RBC Dominion Securities Inc.

John Loeprich joins University Avenue Financial Corporation in Toronto as chief operating officer and chief financial officer. He comes from Fidelity Investments in Toronto, where he was director of finance and director of fund operations.

Pension

Jane Beatty joins the Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) in Toronto as vice-president and general counsel. She comes from the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board in Toronto, where she was legal counsel, investments. In her new role, Beatty is responsible for all governance and corporate legal matters and serves as corporate secretary to HOOPP's board of trustees.

The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board in Toronto announces several promotions. Leo de Bever is promoted to senior vice-president, research and economics. He joined Teachers' in 1995 as vice-president. Brian Gibson is promoted to senior vice-president, active equities. He joined in 1995 as portfolio manager and was promoted to vice-president last year. Morgan McCague is promoted to senior vice-president, quantitative investments. He joined Teachers' in 1993 as vice-president. Neil Petroff is promoted to senior vice-president, international equity indexes, fixed income and foreign exchange. He joined Teachers' in 1993 and was promoted to vice-president in 1995.

Russ Bruch is promoted to vice-president, new business development at Teachers'. He first joined Teachers' in 1991 in the information technology group. Dean Metcalf is promoted to vice-president, merchant banking. He also joined in 1991 and was promoted to portfolio manager in 1995.

Also at Teachers', Phil Nichols is promoted to vice-president, management information systems, member services. He joined in 1995 and has directed the plan's efforts to provide immediate and personalized service to members.

Benefits

Ronald Dahms leaves the group insurance business for a job with the Export Development Corporation in Ottawa as vice-president, business development. Previously, Dahms was executive vice-president, group network with Desjardins-Laurentian Life Assurance and Imperial Life Financial in Montreal and Toronto.

Dr. Steve Semelman is promoted to vice-president, health management services with ESI Canada. Previously, he was president of ESRx Essential Research, the consultative division of ESI Canada. Also at ESI, Kirsten Garces joins as managed care resident. She received her bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Toronto in May. The managed care residency program, affiliated with faculty of pharmacy at the University of Toronto, is a new program designed to educate and train a pharmacist in all aspects of managed care and the pharmacy benefit management business.
