Investments
Dina Palozzi is the new executive vice-president, client relations at BMO Nesbitt Burns in
Toronto. Most recently she served as CEO and superintendent of financial services, Financial Services
Commission of Ontario (FSCO). As CEO, she worked with the provinces to harmonize standards across the
financial services sector. Prior to her work at FSCO, she was deputy minister, revenue and financial
institutions. In her new role, she will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the
application of best practices in client relations.
Simon Segall has joined Foyston, Gordon & Payne Inc. in Toronto as vice-president,
marketing. Segall has over 23 years' experience in pension consulting, client service and investment
marketing. Most recently he was vice-president, institutional sales & service for a Canadian fund
manager.
Canada Life has three new appointments. Jim Reuss is the new investment vice-president and is
responsible for North American mortgages, real estate and co-ordinating investment policy and reporting for
Canada Life's pension funds. Alex MacDonald is the new investment vice-president, Canada, and is
assuming Reuss' investment activities related to the Canadian division. Mary Anne Palangio is the
new financial vice-president. She is responsible for investment services, control and compliance and
systems and technology services.
Greg Malone is a new partner with Eckler Partners Ltd. in Toronto. Malone has experience in
asset consulting, including investment policy, performance evaluation and investment manager selection.
Zaheer Khan has joined Baker Gilmore & Associates, a Montreal-based investment counseling
firm specializing in the management of fixed income investments. Prior to his new post, Khan was a director
of corporate ratings at Standard & Poor's in Toronto.
Helen Kearns is the new president of Nasdaq Canada in Montreal. She joins Nasdaq from Kearns
Capital Corp. where she specialized in underwriting and financial advisory services.
Toronto-based Royal Trust Global Securities Services (GSS) is expanding its risk management team
with new appointments. Gwen Sugiyama is the new director of risk policy and Vivienne Lum is
the new director of risk assessment. Previously, Sugiyama worked at ABN-AMRO Bank Canada. In her new
position, she will be responsible for enhancing GSS's risk policy framework. Lum worked at State Street as
assistant vice-president for investment manager services and was with Royal Trust for 12 years.
Robert Chiuch is the new assistant vice-president and head of global trading, global securities
lending at CIBC Mellon Global Securities Services Company in Toronto. The new position expands
Chiuch's responsibilities to head both equity and fixed income trading.
Pensions
Toronto-based Eckler Partners Ltd. has announced new partners: Anthony Benjamin, Paul
Harrietha and Cameron Hunter. Benjamin specializes in designing, funding and administrating
pension and employee benefits plans. Previously, he worked with a life insurance company. Harrietha is a
consultant specializing in change management and the effective communication of complex pension, benefits
and compensation plans. He was formerly a partner and communications leader with a pension and benefits
consulting firm. Hunter provides pension and asset consulting services to various clients. He has held
positions with a life insurance company and an actuarial consulting firm.
Jean-Louis Massé has been elected president for 2001-2002 of the Canadian Institute of
Actuaries. Massé is vice-president, corporate actuarial of Standard Life Assurance Company.
Benefits
Canada Life in Toronto has appointed Sandra McGill as the company's new regional group sales
director, central Canada. McGill will be responsible for overall sales and service of group insurance in
Ontario.
Martin Brown is Watson Wyatt Canada's new acting regional manager. Brown has worked at Watson
Wyatt for more than 16 years and was most recently regional practice director, benefits. Patrick
Longhurst will fill the role of regional practice director, benefits on an interim basis.
Clarica Life Insurance Company in Waterloo, Ont. has a new senior vice-president, group insurance.
Kirk McIntyre succeeds Michael Beck, who is retiring. McIntyre was previously senior
vice-president, retail services at Maritime Life Assurance Company in Halifax.
At Vancouver-based Hewitt Associates there are two new appointments. Norah Joyce is head of
the group benefits practice. She specializes in helping organizations deliver employee benefits. She was
previously a senior consultant and practice leader with another consulting firm. Jean Douglas is a
communications consultant specializing in employee research. She is leader of listening practice and
consults in employee listening and people practices assessment. Douglas has 14 years' experience in human
resources and employee communications consulting.
Vincent Tonna, president and COO of The National Life Assurance Company of Canada, is elected
chairman of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc.
Aon Consulting has announced several new appointments. In Toronto, three senior consultants were
promoted to vice-president. They are: Debra Horsfield vice-president, human resources; Greg
Durant vice-president, health & benefits; and Sandra Pellegrini vice-president, health
strategies. In London, Ont., Richard Harrison is vice-president, health & benefits.
