Benefits

Biogen Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based biopharmaceutical company, has appointed Frank Burke to executive vice-president of human resources. Burke has been with the company since 1986 and has supervised the human resources function as the company grew from a boutique research organization into a multi-product global pharmaceutical company.

Deborah Cameron is the new vice-president of professional standards and development at Krieger and Associates Ltd. in Toronto. Cameron has over 25 years of experience in the group benefits and consulting industry. Sue Millingen has been appointed practice leader of communications at the firm. She will be responsible for developing and managing the communications team and services required to meet clients' needs.

Montreal's healthcare information technology company, MediSolution Ltd., has appointed Kenneth Rutherford as its new chief financial officer. Rutherford was previously chief financial officer of NBS Holdings Ltd., a multinational information technology company based in Toronto. Rutherford is a chartered accountant.

Investments

Scott Blair, formerly of Integrated Asset Management Inc., is now senior vice-president at Triax Capital Holdings in Toronto. He will focus on developing and executing new structured products and new funds for Triax and developing the new Triax Advanced Strategies.

David Dykstra has been named executive vice-president, head of program solutions, for Northern Trust Global Advisors Inc. in Chicago. Dykstra most recently served as chief investment officer for UAL Benefit Plans at United Airlines. He replaces Bill Clarkin, who recently retired.

VenGrowth Capital Partners, which launched a new venture capital firm in the Ottawa/Kanata region of Ontario, is going to have Patrick DiPietro and Mark Janoska lead its new office.

DiPietro was previously at Nortel Networks and Janoska was previously at PMC Sierra. VenGrowth has investments in the region totalling over $49 million and overall has close to $1 billion in assets under management.

Frank Belvedere has been appointed to the position of vice-president, alternative investments at Montrusco Bolton. Prior to this position he was a principal in the investment consulting practice of a large consulting firm. He will be responsible for developing and distributing absolute return alternative investment products to pension, endowment and private clients in Canada.

Fred Mifflin is BMO Nesbitt Burns' deputy head and chief operating officer. Mifflin will be responsible for operating management responsibility for the firm's business in Canada. Glenn Sauntry and Bill Butt were named co-heads of investment and corporate banking. And Geoff Belsher was named head of the firm's Canadian mergers and acquisitions operations.

Pensions

Donald Raymond is the new vice- president of public market investments of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board in Toronto. Raymond was most recently vice-president at Goldman Sachs in New York, where he was responsible for global equity and fixed-income portfolios. He will now be responsible for developing strategies to manage assets that trade in the public markets.

Morneau Sobeco has appointed Patricia Colley as principal in the administrative solutions practice. She will be responsible for business development and for managing key client relationships across Canada. Colley has over 15 years of experience in the group retirement industry. BC
