Pensions
Julie Nguyen is an actuarial consultant at Baynes & White
in Toronto. Nguyen was previously at Watson Wyatt Toronto's office where she was
an actuarial analyst.
Martha Milczynski is now a partner at the Toronto law firm of
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. She joins the firm's pension and
employee benefits group.
The Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan in Toronto has appointed
George Buse as its new senior vice-president, plan operations. Buse will
head the plan management division. Buse was previously at the Alberta Pensions
Administration Corp.
Michael Cohen has left William M. Mercer Ltd. as principal to work
with the Toronto- and Calgary-based LS&A, a group of international
and domestic consultants. Cohen will be based in Ottawa. LS&A focuses on
consulting to the insurance and pension industries on regulations and pension
reform.
Benefits
Steve Oakley has taken up a secondment with the research transfer
department of the Institute for Work & Health in Toronto. He will be
acting liaison between Ontario's Health & Safety Associations and the
Institute.
ACE INA Insurance has appointed Debra Agostino as accident and
health account executive. She will be based in Vancouver, but will be
responsible for all of Western Canada.
Canada's Research-based Pharmaceutical Companies has appointed
Jean-François Leprince, president of Montreal-based Aventis Pharma Inc.,
to chairman of the board of directors of the association.
Faye Baggiano, eHealth Solutions Group president, was named to the
Health Insurance Association of America board of directors. Baggiano was
elected to the 29-member board at the association's annual forum in November.
Investments
Rudy Dabideen has left the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology
pension plan, where he was director of investments, and has joined Ashford
Capital Canada in Toronto. In his new position as managing director,
Dabideen will be consulting with pension plans.
Simon Coleman is the new director of operations for RBC Global
Services. Coleman will be based in London, U.K. Coleman comes to RBC from
KPMG. In his new role he will be responsible for all aspects of global custody
processing in more than 80 worldwide markets. Coleman replaces David
Banks, who has accepted a position with RBC Global Services as director of
operations, Australia.
Ross Orrett is the new president of InSystems in Toronto.
InSystems provides e-business solutions.
Schroders Investment Management has boosted its Europe, Australia and
Far East investment team, appointing Sheridan Reilly to senior portfolio
manager and executive vice-president. Reilly was previously chief investment
officer, international equities at Mackenzie Investment Management. He will be
based in New York.
Jeff Blanchard has been named vice-president of transition services, a
newly created postion at Northern Trust Global Investments in Chicago.
Blanchard comes from Barclays Global Investors.
Moira McLachlan, vice-president at Ivy Management and portfolio
manager of Ivy Developing Markets Fund, is the new head of the Ivy Funds
International Equities Team in Boca Raton, Fl.
In Memorium
George Blake, former president of eHealth Solutions Group at BCE
Emergis, died recently at age 63 after a lengthy illness.
Blake was founding partner and chairman of Upland Investment Management Ltd.
From 1973 to 1989, Blake worked in benefits consulting at various companies,
including Watson Wyatt Worldwide and William M. Mercer.
He's known for making a success of the Assure Health network since joining in
1989. And he was behind Assure Health's sale to BCE Emergis. He's also known for
implementing BCE Emergis' network-centric solutions in the Canadian health
sector and extending them to the U.S. health insurance community. BC
