Lori Bak
Lori is the publisher of Canadian Investment Review and associate publisher of Benefits Canada and Avantages at Rogers Media, Healthcare and Financial Publishing. She has worked at Rogers Media as a business journalist and editor for 16 years, most recently as editorial director of Rogers’ financial publications and past editor of Benefits Canada. Lori is an active member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM).
 
Darryl Barclay
Darryl is currently the senior director, human resources, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc., with responsibility for pension and benefits, compensation, employment, and training and development. PotashCorp has over 5000 employees and is the world’s largest fertilizer company with operations in Canada, U.S., Trinidad, Chile and Brazil. Darryl graduated from the University of Regina with a bachelor of administration.
 
Susan Brady
Susan is manager, human resources at Sifton Properties Limited. This position oversees the development, implementation and maintenance of all human resources activities, including benefits, payroll processes and other programs, within the company and its health care subsidiary. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Susan has received her certification of human resources management and CHRP designation from the Human Resources Professional Organization of Ontario.
 
Donald J.S. Brean
Donald is professor of finance and economics in the Rotman School of Management at The University of Toronto and an associate of the Centre for International Studies and The Centre for International Business. He was formerly associate dean of the faculty of management and director of commerce programs. He has published extensively in books, academic journals and business publications in capital markets, taxation, international finance and investment, industrial organization, and economic policy. Professor Brean holds graduate degrees from the University of Toronto and The London School of Economics. He has held academic appointments at Cambridge University and Ecole Superieure de Commerce Paris. His current research interests include international financial integration, factors influencing international investment, the development of national policy in view of the increasing mobility of capital and structural adjustment in economies in transition.
 
Heather Briant
Heather is the human resources director at Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited. She is responsible for the corporation’s flexible benefits and capital accumulation plans, including the stock purchase plan, deferred profit sharing plan and group RRSPs. Previously, Heather held director roles in organization development and central business services at Canadian Tire. She has also worked as the chief administrative officer for a major law firm. Heather has an MBA from the University of Toronto.
 
Paul Cameron
Paul is treasury operations manager at Ford of Canada. He is currently responsible for pensions, employee insurance and banking. He has been with Ford for 16 years. He has a B.A.Sc. from the University of Toronto and an MBA from York University.
 
Michael Campbell
Michael was raised in Northern Ontario and graduated from Laurentian University in 1990 with an honours BA in commerce. He joined London Life ’s employee benefits division as a sales representative and has worked as director, marketing, group retirement services, since September 2001 for Great-West · London Life.

John is the treasurer at Syncrude Canada Ltd., a position he has held since 1995. Previously, he served as manager, treasury services and manager, information management. He earned his bachelor of commerce from Carleton University in 1973.
 
Trish Colley
Trish has been the assistant vice-president, client relationships, national accounts for Sun Life Financial's Group Retirement Services (GRS) division since April 2002. She joined Sun Life Financial's GRS management team in 2001 as assistant vice-president of national client relationships. Trish has over 18 years of experience drawn from a range of roles in the financial services industry. She was a principal at Morneau Sobeco, and at Fidelity Group Pensions Canada, she was the director of relationship management and then marketing and product development. Trish holds an honours BA from the University of Toronto and is an active member of CPBI.
 
Mike Collins
Mike is currently, vice-president, marketing, Canadian pension operations at Manulife Financial. He is responsible for product development, communications, national distribution support and for the Quebec Region. With the company since 1986, Mike has held senior positions in communication services, markets development, public relations and marketing services, and group benefits. He was appointed to his current role in April 2002.
 
Renée Couture
Renée is the manager, compensation and benefits at Pratt & Whitney Canada. She has been in this position since September 2002. For eight years prior, Renée worked in retirement consulting at Towers Perrin in Montreal and Toronto. She is a graduate of the University of Concordia with a degree in actuarial science and is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
 
Paul Dempsey
Paul is manager, investment funds at the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) where his team is responsible for dealing with operational, investment management and continuous disclosure issues related to various types of investment funds. Paul joined the OSC in 1997 as legal counsel in the Market Operations Branch. Prior to this, he was legal counsel at the Pension Commission of Ontario and at the Ministry of Financial Institutions (Ontario). He studied law at McGill University and has undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics.
 
France Desjardins
France is vice-president, sales, group savings and retirement at Standard Life. In this capacity, she is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and business plans to bolster Standard Life’s position in the institutional affairs sector. Previously, she served as vice-president, sales support and communications, and vice-president, employee communication and education services (for which she retains responsibility) at Standard Life. France obtained a BA in French studies from the Université de Montréal.
 
Mandy Dewart
Mandy is the employee services manager with Schlumberger Canada Limited. In her role she manages the strategic policy, plan design and delivery of all Schlumberger Canada benefit plans, compensation structure and other total rewards initiatives. In addition, Mandy is involved with the Petroleum Services Association of Canada and the Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada. She is a graduate of the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta and is currently pursuing the certified benefits practitioner designation.
 
Kevin Dougherty
Since May 2001, Kevin has been vice-president of Sun Life Financial's Group Retirement Services (GRS), the largest provider of DC Pension and Group RRSP services in Canada. Prior to leading the Sun Life Financial GRS business, Kevin was the vice-president of Sun Life Financial's group benefits division. With over 20 years of experience in the group pension and benefits industry, he is a member of CPBI and ACPM, various CLHIA taskforces, and the National Quality Institute. Kevin holds a master of business administration (global program) from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
 
Brian H. Ehlers
Brian is vice-president, finance at Casino Rama where he is responsible for all finance, accounting, treasury, cashiering and information systems functions. He joined Casino Rama in December 1995 after serving as vice-president, finance at CHC’s Casino Rouge property in Louisiana. Brian has a bachelor of science from the Illinois Institute of Technology and attended graduate school at the University of Akron. He also has his CPA certificate.
 
Chris Ferrill
Chris is manager of compensation and benefits with Shell Canada Limited in Calgary. His current areas of responsibility include policy and programs for pension, benefits, staff and executive compensation, expatriate administration, employee transfers, and job evaluation. He previously had responsibilities in the areas of manpower planning and human resources information technology. Prior to joining Shell, he worked for the federal government with the Anti-Inflation Board and Pay Research Bureau.
 
Barbara Foy-Pilchner
Barbara is manager, institutional product support for AIM Trimark Investments. In this capacity, she is responsible for marketing and product support for institutional clients, specifically in the corporate pension and insurance sectors. Barbara joined Trimark’s marketing department in 1999 with an institutional focus. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto with an honors BA in economics.

Yves is vice-president, customer services, group savings and retirement at Standard Life. In this capacity, he is responsible for evaluating and implementing strategies and processes intended to increase the level of satisfaction of the clientele. With over 20 years experience in the financial services industry, Yves has held various positions in upper management. He belongs to the Ordre des comptables généraux licenciés du Québec and the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada.
 
Richard Garand
Richard has been working at Alcan since 1984. He is presently manager, compensation, expatriation services, and employee benefits for non-unionized employees in Canada. In this position he is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a competitive compensation and benefits program for Alcan salaried employees across Canada. He is also responsible for the communication, training of the network resources and administration of the majority of these programs.
 
Stuart Graham
Stuart is managing director of Fidelity Retirement Services and is responsible for the overall operation of Fidelity’s defined contribution and defined benefit business in Canada. Stuart joined Fidelity in August 1996, first as director of relationship management, then as vice-president of sales and relationship management. Prior to joining Fidelity, he worked as a corporate lawyer and as a pension and benefits consultant. He is a member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management, the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute, and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. Stuart holds an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa and a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
 
John Grinvalds
John is the senior HR business partner for Canada with UnumProvident Insurance. As the traditional HR head for the Canadian operation he also aligns strategically with the executive team in Canada and the corporate HR group in the US A member of the senior management business team, John is responsible for shaping UnumProvident's human resource business strategy. He holds a bachelor of commerce from McMaster University and an associateship with the Royal Conservatory of Toronto.
 
Wayne Harrop
Wayne is responsible for global pensions, benefits and savings plans for RBC Financial Group. As such, he is involved in all pension and benefit due diligence activities related to mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. Professionally, Wayne is a member of the Canadian Bankers Association’s Pension and Benefits Standing Committee. He has over 30 years experience in the pensions and benefits field with over 25 years in the forestry industry at Abitibi Consolidated. Wayne has a BA and has completed the FLMI program.
 
Alex Harvey
Alex is vice-president, group and payout annuities at Canada Life. With Canada Life for 31 years, he is responsible for group retirement and savings plans and for payout annuities. Alex received an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Toronto in 1970, and returned to complete the executive MBA program in 1993.
 
Rick Headrick
Rick is the team leader of James P. Marshall's DC group and consults with clients sponsoring various types of capital accumulation plans. Prior to taking on his current role, Rick was the team leader of Hewitt's governance practice in Canada and consulted on all aspects of an organization's governance structure, including the governance of defined contribution plans. Rick has a bachelor of commerce, a LL.B. and has completed his CFP designation. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and The Association of Canadian Pension Management.
 
Jeff Horbal
Jeff is vice-president, institutional investments at Fidelity Retirement Services, headquartered in Toronto. In this capacity, Jeff oversees sales and marketing, data and fund analysis, and client service for Fidelity’s defined benefit disciplines. He joined Fidelity in 1998 with 15 years of industry experience in institutional equity trading, corporate finance, personal financial planning and mutual funds. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor of commerce, and has completed several executive and investment management courses.
 
Jennifer Hubbard
Jennifer is manager, human resources corporate at Economical Insurance in Waterloo, Ontario. Her portfolio includes compensation, benefits, pension, HRIS, payroll and new program development. Jennifer has a bachelor of business administration from Wilfrid Laurier University, a master of arts from the University of Waterloo and is a certified human resources professional. She is a member of HRPAO and WorldatWork.
 
Stephen Iley
Stephen is currently director, human resources at McCarthy Tetrault in Toronto. He joined the firm in 1999. His previous roles have included director, national human resources, PriceWaterhouse Canada and manager, human resources, Oxford Development Group. Stephen has over two decades of experience in management and leadership positions addressing a range of strategic and operational human resources issues and initiatives in areas including, international compensation, re-engineering of HR functions, incentive compensation and employment law. Nurez Jiwani
Nurez is the director of regulatory coordination at the Ontario Securities Commission and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO). In this capacity, he facilitates the coordination of regulatory activities of the two organizations as well as leads a number of FSCO harmonization initiatives at the national level, including CAPSA’s Model Law, pension governance, investment policy and the Joint Forum’s Capital Accumulation Plans initiative. Until recently, Nurez was director of policy and communications at FSCO. Prior to that, he directed the operational and policy areas of the former Pension Commission of Ontario. Nurez holds a bachelor of science in economics and statistics and a masters degree in business administration.
 
Joan Johannson
Joan is vice-president, group marketing and business development solutions at Canada Life. She is responsible for marketing solutions for group life & health and group wealth management. With over 20 years in the financial services industry, she has held senior positions in six major financial institutions with extensive experience in banking, brokerage and personal trust. Joan is an active member of LIMRA, ACPM and CPBI. She is a graduate of Queen's University and the University of Toronto.
 
Soami Kohly
Soami has worked as a consulting actuary with Hewitt Associates since 1993. In this capacity, he leads Hewitt's Canadian retirement and financial management client development group. Prior to taking on his current role, Soami consulted on the design, administration and communication of retirement and benefit programs. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and a fellow of the Society of Actuaries. Soami graduated with a bachelor of science (actuarial science) from the University of Western Ontario.
 
Bill Kyle
Bill is vice-president, group retirement services at Great-West · London Life. He is responsible for all business functions, including administration, systems, marketing and sales. Bill is active in the industry and is a frequent speaker and commentator on the capital accumulation market. He is currently chair of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Group Retirement Committee, industry chair of the joint CLHIA/FSCO pension committee and the insurance industry representative of the CAPSA Investment Policy Committee Advisory Group. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo.
 
Michael N. Labou
Michael has been in the pension and benefits industry since 1981. He has spent the last 17 years with Manulife Financial in various roles in Toronto, Ottawa and finally Vancouver. He is currently responsible for directing the pension field offices for Manulife's Western Region. Michael resides in North Vancouver and is active in his community, sitting on the board of the foundation supporting the local health region.
 
Michael Lee
Mike is vice-president, human resources at Moosehead Breweries Limited. He is responsible for all human resource functions including industrial relations, recruiting, development of high performance culture, as well as pensions and benefits. He is also a member of the company’s executive committee. His previous roles have included manager of compensation and safety at NBTel and director, pensions and benefits at JD Irving, Ltd. Mike has completed the Humber College certificate in employee benefits and was recently awarded the CHRP designation.
 
Kelly Losak
Kelly is the director, human resources for InterTAN Canada Ltd. which is a consumer electronics retailer operating company-owned retail stores and dealer outlets in Canada. In this role, she is responsible for directing the operations of human resources and developing and implementing policies, programs and procedures regarding human resource planning, recruitment, collective bargaining, health and safety, and salary and benefit administration. Kelly has an honours BA in sociology and comparative development and holds the CHRP designation from the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario.
 
Rick Luciani
Rick is general manager, human resources and administration at Gibson Energy Ltd. He is responsible for the corporation’s human resources and administration functions and provides direction to both groups in executing their strategic and tactical plans. Previously, Rick held several senior human resources roles for Cominco Ltd. and Agrium Inc. He is a graduate of Concordia University and holds a bachelor of commerce.
 
Jim MacDonald
Before coming to Benefits Canada, Jim was the managing editor of Advisor.ca, part of The ADVISOR Group at Rogers Media. Jim joined Rogers in November 2000. A journalist since 1987, Jim has worked in a variety of editorial positions including reporter/editor of Global Stratagems, the media unit of the mutual fund company Global Strategy, as well as reporter/editor with The Canadian Press-Broadcast News and as wire service editor with Standard Broadcast News. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto and has a broadcasting diploma from Centennial College in Toronto.
 
Brian MacIntyre
Brian is currently senior benefits advisor at Imperial Oil, Limited, which he joined in 1971. In this role, Brian acts as policy advisor for the pension plan, savings plan and corporate workplace policies. In this regard, he tracks legislative developments, interacts with provincial pension regulators, monitors outside administration of the savings plan and advises senior management on benefits and workplace policies. He has a master of economics and has obtained the certified management accountant designation.
 
Alain Malaket
Alain is the director of pensions for George Weston Limited and Loblaw Companies Limited. His previous positions in pension administration and regulation have included, pension officer with the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), senior manager with Management Board Secretariat and senior consultant with KPMG’s actuarial, benefits and compensation division. Alain is a past co-chair of FSCO’s Plan Sponsor’s Committee and a member of the Pension Review Committee.
 
Ann Marshall
Ann is the co-founder of James P. Marshall and is located in Toronto. Since 1975, she has been actively involved in the specifics of pension consulting. Ann has conducted special research projects on a variety of investment-related topics as well as maintaining ongoing relationships with corporate, union and government plan sponsors. She has published articles in a number of professional journals and presented papers to the Canadian Pension Benefits Conference, the Association of Canadian Pension Management, and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
 
Eleanor Marshall
Eleanor is currently the director, financial planning and analysis in the treasury department at Aliant Inc. Part of this role is to serve as the senior management person with direct responsibility for Aliant’s pension plans, including pension fund investment, actuarial valuations, fund governance and pension accounting. It also includes long-term financial forecasting, financing planning and valuation support for corporate M&A activities. Eleanor is both a chartered accountant and chartered financial analyst.
 
Ken McCord
Ken began his career in the financial services industry in 1985. Assuming various sales and management roles over the years within the investment management industry, Ken is now senior vice-president of sales for AIM Trimark. He has been a frequent guest on CTV, CBC, City TV and ROB TV as a market analyst and speaks frequently to the investment-advisor community and to the public at large. Dave McLellan
Dave is group savings product vice-president at Canada Life. He has been with the company for 15 years and is responsible for the administration and pricing of group savings programs. Dave has a B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario, and is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries.
 
Tricia Moore
Tricia joined Rogers Media in 2001 as conference manager. Currently she oversees conferences within Financial and Healthcare Publishing. She brings to her position more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality and retail industries with an emphasis on special events planning, marketing and customer service evaluation. She is a graduate of Queen’s University.
 
Adam Neal
Adam joined Fidelity Investments in 1998 as director, business development, and has been instrumental in developing Fidelity’s presence in Canada. He began his career over 10 years ago in telecommunications working with Cable & Wireless, AT&T, and Bell Canada. As vice-president, relationship management, Adam has the responsibility for managing the overall relationships for Fidelity’s defined contribution business. He has written several industry articles and has spoken at various CPBI and ACPM conferences. He is a graduate of Bishop’s University.
 
Cheryl Neighbour
Cheryl has been in the pension field for over 20 years and is currently the executive director of operations for the UBC Faculty Pension Plan. As director, Cheryl has overall responsibility for the management, administration, and governance of the plan. Prior to UBC, she was the director of custody operations at Royal Trust for several years. Cheryl has an executive MBA from Simon Fraser University and her CGA designation.
 
Jan Neiman
Jan is manager of benefits and pensions at Rothmans, Benson & Hedges. In this role, she manages traditional and flex benefit plans and both DB and DC pension plans including administration, communications, education, design and implementation. Jan was responsible for the implementation of an interactive web-based pension site, which received the Benefits Canada communications award in 1999. She completed the CEBS program in 1997 and the fellowship programs in 1999 and 2001.
 
Hugh O’Reilly
Hugh is a partner at Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre & Cornish and is head of the firm’s pension and benefits group. The areas of his practice include advising multi-employee pension and benefit plans on pension plan administrative issues, advising unions on pension and benefit issues and representing employees who have been terminated or who are entering into new employment arrangements.
 
Rosemarie Pedro
Rosemarie is the compensation and benefits manager for Coca-Cola Bottling Company (CCBC) that employs approximately 4,800 full-time employees in Canada. Rosemarie joined CCBC in 1994 and has spent the last four years managing all aspects of CCBC’s benefits, pensions and compensation plans. She is also a member of the CCBC’s pension and employee savings and investment plan committees. Rosemarie has an honours BA from the University of Toronto.
 
Louise Pellerin-Lacasse
Louise is vice-president, marketing, group savings and retirement at Standard Life. She leads the strategic development and ongoing management of all products and services related to group pension arrangements. She joined Standard Life in 1979 and has worked in various departments including corporate actuarial, group consulting and held the position of vice-president, product development between 1993 and 1998. Louise is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and of the Society of Actuaries.
 
John Por
John is founder and president of Cortex, a consulting firm specializing in working with boards of directors, corporate executives and their teams on fiduciary risk management and decision-making. He advises pension and endowment funds on pension governance, strategic planning, asset/liability management, fiduciary risk management and education, and other organizational issues. He is also a regular speaker at industry conferences and seminars. John has completed the Harvard Executive Program on board governance and has obtained the certified investment management analyst designation from The Investment Management Consultants’ Association. He also holds a PhD in engineering, and various business degrees, obtained in Europe and Canada.
 
Marc Poupart
Marc is director, benefits administration and advisor, tax affairs for Hudson's Bay Company. His responsibilities include administration of all benefits, pension governance, and liaising with investment managers, actuaries, regulatory agencies and the pension committee. Marc is a chartered accountant and a member of the Tax Executive Institute. He has a bachelor of commerce and a diploma in public accountancy, both from McGill University.
 
Kevin Press
Kevin is editor, special projects with Rogers Healthcare and Financial Media in Toronto. He joined the organization in February 1998. Kevin has been a business journalist in Canada since 1989. He graduated from the journalism program at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1988, and completed the Canadian Securities Course in 2001. He is chairman of the Ontario Regional Council of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute.
 
Carolle Preston
Carolle graduated from Université du Québec à Montréal with a bachelor of business administration degree in human resources. She joined Belron Canada Inc. in 1998 as a counsellor, human resources and in 2002, she was named manager. With 15 years of human resources experience, she is, with a team of four employees, mainly responsible for the administration of the compensation programs, pension plan, group insurance, health and safety programs, working relations and employee assistance programs.
 
Bob Romphf
Bob is currently responsible for all aspects of pensions and benefits for the 11,000 members of the Manitoba Nurses Union. He also sits as a labor trustee and representative on the Healthcare Employees Pension Plan, Healthcare Employees Benefits Plan, the new Winnipeg Civic Pension Plan as well as numerous DC and GRRSP plans. With over 20 years experience in pensions and benefits, Bob has written many articles, briefs and made presentations on numerous topics relating to the industry. He is a graduate of both nursing and hospital administration as well as receiving his ATMS designation from the International Foundation of Employee Benefits.
 
Sandra Schroeder
Sandra is currently manager, Canadian Pension Plan at Nortel Networks. She joined Nortel in 1993 and has since worked in a variety of areas within the finance organization including accounting, global planning and analysis, treasury and pensions. Previously, Sandra worked at Deloitte & Touche. She has a bachelor of business administration from York University and received the CGA designation in 1995.
 
Anaheet F. Sethna
Anaheet is a compensation and benefits specialist at Home Depot. Her responsibilities include the design and implementation of benefit processes and initiatives across Canada in line with the company's total compensation programs. She is also responsible for the development of communication material and the review of market trends to ensure competitiveness of benefits plans offered to various groups of associates. Anaheet has a bachelor of commerce, a payroll manager's designation, CHRM and an MBA.
 
Bill Sipes
Bill is the marketing director for Manulife's Canadian pension operations. He is responsible for product development and marketing of group savings products. Bill has been in the insurance industry for 18 years, with the last seven years focused on the group savings market. He holds a BA in economics, and has completed the FLMI, ACS and IFIC programs.
 
Tracy Smith
Tracy is assistant editor, conferences for the healthcare and financial division of Rogers Media. Her responsibilities include the management of conference materials and development of the conference web sites. Tracy has an honours BA from McMaster University and a post-graduate diploma in journalism new media from Sheridan College.
 
Michael Stanley
As director of investments and product pricing, Michael has primary responsibilities for the investments and product pricing aspects of the Group Retirement Services division of Great-West · London Life. His efforts are focused in the area of fund manager review and oversight, asset allocation and profitability concerns. Michael joined the company after graduating from the University of Western Ontario in 1992. Since 1998 he has been a member of the Group Retirement Services management team. Michael has a master of finance from the London School of Economics and is a fellow in the Society of Actuaries.
 
Stephen J. Steele
Stephen is director, financial services for the Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited. In this role, he is responsible for corporate finance, accounting and financial reporting, treasury, pensions, and employee compensation and benefits programs. Stephen has presented at numerous conferences and seminars on pension and corporate taxation issues. He is an honours graduate of the University of Toronto and holds a bachelor of commerce and an MBA.
 
Andrew Steeves
Andrew is the vice-president of administration for ADI Group Inc. ADI is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest firms for engineers, architects and environmental scientists. He is past chair of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada and has served on several committees for the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers as well as several business and community boards. Andrew is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick with degrees in engineering and business.
 
Garry Sudul
Garry is director of pensions and benefits at JD Irving Ltd. He is responsible for the administration of defined benefit, defined contribution, GRSP and group insurance plans for all JD Irving and affiliated companies. Garry has worked in the field of human resources, pensions and benefits for 28 years in a variety of industries including pulp and paper, shipbuilding, transportation, publishing/broadcasting and wholesale/retail. He has a bachelor of arts from the University of Calgary.
 
Pat Suzuki
Pat is director of HR services and pension investments at Suncor in Calgary. Her responsibilities include managing the pension and supplemental plans, benefits administration, financial and regulatory reporting, employee education and communication and plan investments. She is also responsible for the company’s benefits plans, payroll and the HR intranet. Pat has been with Suncor for 16 years. She is a chartered accountant with a bachelor of mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
 
Janice Telfer
Janice is manager, human resources for Ingersoll-Rand Canada. In this function she has responsibility for a diverse range of pension arrangements in Canada, with particular emphasis on managing change status that result from corporate acquisitions and divestitures. Janice also has global exposure on international corporate teams related to employee benefits, cross-border relocation and corporate travel initiatives.
 
Gerry Valois
Gerry is currently the managing director of human resources at Agricore United in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The company is western Canada's leading farmer-directed agribusiness. Gerry ’s responsibilities include managing the development, implementation, coordination and maintenance of all human resources programs, policies, and new initiatives. Prior to Agricore, he managed his own human resources consulting firm and held senior positions with Nygard International and Inter City Gas Corporation.
 
Gerry Wahl
Gerry is currently assistant treasurer at Teck Cominco Limited. His responsibilities include reclamation funding and overseeing the financial and governance aspects of the company pension, RRSP and RCAs. With a background in taxation, accounting and management, Gerry’s previous positions have included controller for the historic Sullivan Mine in Kimberley B.C. for 14 years, auditor for Shell Canada and tax auditor for CCRA. He has a bachelor of commerce, an MBA and the CMA designation.
 
Joanna Walewski
Joanna works with Schlumberger Canada Limited, where she is responsible for the management and delivery of the retirement and savings plans. She graduated from the University of Alberta and is currently pursuing the certified benefits practitioner designation and the Canadian Securities Course. Joanna is a member of the Human Resources Association of Calgary, Human Resource Institute of Alberta and the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute.
 
Sean Walkinshaw
Sean is currently head of total compensation for Siemens Canada Limited. He is responsible for designing and managing total compensation systems and programs for the employees and executives of the company as well as its affiliates. He also oversees payroll services as well as the organization’s mergers, acquisitions and new business integration as it relates to human resources. With over 10 years in the field, Sean has also held roles as director of global compensation and benefits and assistant vice-president of total compensation in both national and international organizations.
 
Becky West
Becky is pensions manager at Telus where she is responsible for BC and central Canada management employees as well as the executive pension plan. The management pension program offers flexible pension arrangements for a defined benefit and defined contribution plan. Becky has been employed by Telus for 14 years in the compensation group, working primarily in the pension and benefits area. She has a degree in business administration.
 
Joanne Wilson
Joanne is currently national pension manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she is responsible for plan governance over the firm’s plans. Prior to this, she was at Fidelity Group Pensions with responsibility for the teams handling plan administration of DC pension and savings plans. Joanne has also held positions at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and OMERS. She has an MBA from York University.
 
Bruce Winch
Bruce is vice-president, institutional sales at AIM. He joined Trimark institutional sales in June 1996 and has over 19 years experience in the pension and investment industry. In his current role, he works closely with pension clients, consulting houses, and pension sales and service representatives. Bruce is a member of the Association of the Canadian Pension Management and the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute.
 
Robert Ziegler
Robert is president and chief executive officer of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local No. 832, which represents 16,000 members in the province of Manitoba. He has worked with the local union since 1980, holding a number of positions prior to becoming president. He has been very active as trustee on numerous pension, health and welfare funds covering Local 832 members. Robert is chairperson of the Manitoba Pension Commission and vice-president of the Manitoba Federation of Labour. He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba.
