Roughly 2,000 Unifor members at eight Ontario casinos have voted to strike if new pension and benefits agreements can’t be negotiated by midnight on July 22.

The union is also seeking to increase in the amount of stable jobs by converting part-time or casual positions into full-time jobs, according to a press release.

The strike would impact operations at Casino Ajax, Casino Woodbine, Elements Casino Brantford, Elements Casino Mohawk, Great Blue Heron Casino, Pickering Casino Resort, Shorelines Casino Peterborough and Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands.

“Casino employers have bounced back following the [coronavirus] pandemic-related closures,” said Lana Payne, national secretary-treasurer at Unifor, in the release. “Our goal at the bargaining table is to share some of those gains with the workers who make casinos successful.”
