The traditional 40-hour nine-to-five workweek is now a thing of the past for the vast majority of American workers.

According to a survey by PGi, 88% of respondents say they work more than 40 hours per week. And 71% take work home at least one day per week.

The survey also finds that 71% say they work more than they prefer, 63% eat lunch at their desks, and 60% rely on technology to automate processes to be more productive. Surprisingly, 16% would reduce the number of meetings to improve productivity.

“As mobile technology evolves and workloads increase, the traditional 40-hour workweek is giving way to a new reality for workers: longer hours and increased stress from constant connectivity,” says Sean O’Brien, the company’s executive vice-president of strategy and communications.
