Skating Where the Puck Was

hockey puckCanadian Investment Review’s 2013 Investment Innovation Conference kicks off next month in Scottsdale, Arizona. This year’s event features an impressive lineup of speakers, including Paul Kedrosky, investor, writer and entrepreneur. His session, “Skating Where the Puck Was: A Guide to the New-New Market,” will focus on how our idea of “normalcy” in markets has been overturned by many factors, including some things that weren’t previously markets. As Kedrosky will point out, a combination of collapsing costs, converging correlations, emerging platforms, new asset classes, and more liquid markets in most things (and less liquid markets in a few others) are conspiring to change markets entirely. Many participants continue to pretend this isn’t happening, and, as a result, are skating where the puck was.
