Chart of the Week: Canada Lags in R&D Spending

An interactive tool on Ourworldindata.org crunches available numbers to rank countries on how much they’re investing in the future. Turns out South Korea tops the list with R&D spending as a share of GDP standing at 4.3% – Israel is next at 4.1% followed by Japan (3.6%), Sweden (3.2%), Switzerland (3%), Germany (2.7%) and China (2%).

Canada’s R&D sits at a lowly 1.61% – on par with the UK, at 1.7%. You can view an interactive version of this graph here.
