Fengate Asset Management’s win in the Future of Work category at Benefits Canada‘s 2025 Workplace Benefits Awards is reinforcing its approach to workplace flexibility and hybrid work, says Alexandra McGuire, senior manager of total rewards operations.
“Fengate’s hybrid work model is built on trust, accountability and flexibility. Since initially introducing hybrid work, we’ve intentionally moved away from rigid rules towards clearer principles — empowering leaders and teams to decide what works best for their business objectives while keeping connection and culture front and centre.”

Most teams now operate in a hybrid environment balancing in-office collaboration with remote flexibility. “We’ve seen strong employee engagement and retention outcomes, particularly in competitive talent markets, which we attribute in part to our flexible approach,” she says, noting employee feedback consistently highlights flexibility as a driver of satisfaction and well-being.
The company has also focused on ensuring fairness and consistency across teams. “While hybrid arrangements may look different depending on role requirements, we focus on applying consistent decision-making principles across the organization.”

Maintaining connection and cohesion, particularly for new hires, was one of the biggest implementation challenges, says McGuire. “We addressed this by being intentional about in-person collaboration moments, investing in onboarding and manager capability and reinforcing the importance of communication.”
Looking ahead, Fengate plans to continue refining its hybrid strategy as the organization grows, she adds. “As Fengate continues to scale, preserving our collaborative, high-performance culture while offering flexibility will remain a key priority.”
