Indigo Books & Music Inc. is offering paid sick leave for employees that test positive for coronavirus during an eight-week screening program led by the Ontario Ministry of Health.
This includes employees at the company’s distribution centres, retail locations and head office, according to a press release, which noted the retailer hasn’t experienced any transmission of coronavirus within the workplace. The company is also offering paid support for employees awaiting test results or self-isolating due to potential exposure, as well as paid sick time during the pandemic for all seasonal and part-time retail and distribution centre employees.

The retailer has also implemented a number of health and safety measures including enhanced cleaning protocols, mandatory temperature checks in its three distribution centres, electronic medical-screening questionnaires for all staff to complete before attending work and providing staff with personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves and face shields.
“The health and well-being of our employees and customers has always been our priority at Indigo,” said Sloane Cox, vice-president of human resources for retail and distribution centres at Indigo, in the release. “Throughout the various stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve taken a number of actions to protect our people as best we can and have implemented industry leading health and safety policies with the help of medical experts.”
