People Watch: On the move in January

Here’s a review of the people on the move this month.

Robert Gill will be joining Lincluden Investment Management as vice-president and equity portfolio manager. He has more than 17 years of investment experience as a value portfolio manager. Gill previously worked at Aston Hill as a vice-president and portfolio manager.

John Hammond has been appointed executive compensation practice leader for Towers Watson in Canada, succeeding Fiona Macdonald, who is retiring from the company. He has been consulting to boards and senior management on executive and director compensation issues for the past 15 years.

Onex has appointed David Hirsch as a managing director. Prior to joining Onex in 2003, he worked at J.P. Morgan Partners and CIBC World Markets.

Julie Holden has assumed the role of absence and disability management leader, health and productivity, at Buck Consultants. Prior to joining Buck last year, Holden worked at Towers Watson, Banyan Work Health Solutions, Morneau Sobeco, Manulife Financial and Canada Life.

The CFA Society Toronto has appointed Sue Lemon as its CEO. She has been an active volunteer with the CFA Society Toronto for the past 20 years, notably mentoring young industry professionals. Lemon earned her charter in 1989.

Cameron McNeill (above) has been appointed The Segal Group’s business leader in Canada. He has 30 years of experience in the employee benefits consulting business in Canada and the U.K. McNeill joined Segal in March 2013 after a 20-plus-year career with Buck Consultants.

The Government of Ontario has created the Technical Advisory Group on Retirement Security, which is made up of six pension experts from the public, private and non-profit sectors: Keith Ambachtsheer, director of the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management; David Denison, former president and CEO of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board; Susan Eng, vice-president for advocacy at CARP; Melissa Kennedy, senior vice-president, general counsel and corporate affairs, at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan; Jim Keohane, president and CEO of the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan; and Bill Morneau, executive chairman of Morneau Shepell. Working with former prime minister Paul Martin, the group will advise the government on how to improve the retirement income system in the province.

Jagoda Pike has assumed the role of president and CEO of Homewood Health, a newly created organization combining the services of the Homewood Health Centre, Homewood Human Solutions and Homewood Return to Work Services. She was named president and CEO of the Homewood Health Centre in 2012 and was appointed president and CEO of Homewood Health Inc. in 2013. Pike was formerly the publisher of the Toronto Star.

Tawfiq Popatia has been appointed as managing director at Onex. Before he joined Onex in 2007, Popatia worked at Hellman & Friedman and Morgan Stanley.

Stuart Raftus has joined Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management as its president in Canada. He has more than 28 years of experience in the securities industry.

Donald Raymond plans to leave the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and join Alignvest Management Corp. to become chief investment officer and managing partner in April. He’s currently the CPPIB’s senior vice-president and chief investment strategist. Raymond joined the organization in 2001 and was the first employee in its public market investment department.

RBC Global Asset Management has added 10 global equity specialists to its investment management team in London. The team of specialists, led by Habib Subjally, join from First State Investments Ltd. He will take on the role of senior portfolio manager and head of global equities. Neil Abbott, Luis Benoliel, Marcus Lun, Jeremy Richardson, Julie Thomas, Dag Wetterwald, Perry Winfield and Ben Yeoh are joining as senior portfolio managers, and Romain Scampini will join as a portfolio manager.

Ryan Resch has been named executive compensation practice leader for Towers Watson’s Toronto office. He has extensive experience in corporate governance issues surrounding executive and director compensation.

Derek Smyth, former managing director at OMERS Ventures and Vision Critical board member, has joined the company as chief revenue officer. He has more than 20 years of experience helping companies accelerate their growth strategy as both a venture capitalist and technology executive.
