People Watch: On the move in June

Here’s a review of the people on the move this month.

Towers Watson has made two global appointments. Craig Baker will take on the new role of global chief investment officer (CIO), responsible for all aspects of the company’s investment philosophy and process, while Chris Mansi will assume the new role of global delegated CIO, with responsibility for the construction and management of delegated clients’ portfolios.

Manulife Asset Management has named Craig Bethune and Diana M. Racanelli as portfolio managers on a new global natural resources equity team. Both join from TD Asset Management and are based in Toronto.

David Blyth has joined Greystone Managed Investments’ Toronto office as vice-president, defined contribution. In this role, he will be helping to service and ‎grow the company’s DC business.

Christopher Cartwright has joined the Canadian Centre for Retirement Innovation as its creative director. He was most recently president of The Financial Education Institute of Canada and has decades of experience in the group retirement industry.

Industrial Alliance has appointed three people to its group sales offices in Toronto and Halifax. Jamie Conklin has joined as senior account executive, group sales, Ontario. Michael Kennedy has also joined as senior account executive, group sales, Ontario. And Vicki MacDonald has joined as senior account executive, group sales, Atlantic Canada.

Bruce Cooper, currently vice-chair of TD Asset Management (TDAM), will take on the role of chief investment officer effective January 2015. He’s worked at TDAM since 1993. Cooper will replace Satish Rai, who has decided to retire after 27 years with the company.

Patrick De Roy has recently joined Eckler’s Montreal office as the firm’s Quebec risk and investment practice leader. He was previously an institutional portfolio manager with Pyramis Global Advisors.

Gordon Fyfe (above) has stepped down as president and CEO of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board to become CEO and chief investment officer of British Columbia Investment Management Corp. He succeeds Doug Pearce and will take over the role on July 7. Pearce announced his plans to retire last August.

The members of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association have elected Donald Guloien, president and CEO of Manulife Financial, as chairman. A 33-year Manulife veteran, he is also a member of the board of directors and chair of the company’s executive committee.

Joseph Iannicelli has joined the board of directors at Smart Employee Benefits as an independent director. He has more than 25 years of experience within the Canadian life and health insurance sector, particularly in the group benefits industry.

Michael Keaveney has been appointed director of investment management, Canada, for the Morningstar Investment Management group. He’ll be responsible for leading institutional investment consulting and investment management in Canada.

Alain Malaket joined the MS (Multi-Sector) Non-Profit Benefit Plan Administrators as executive director. He was previously with George Weston Ltd. and Loblaw Companies Ltd.

The Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan (SHEPP) has appointed Alison McKay as CEO. She has served in the role on an interim basis since 2013 and been a member of SHEPP’s senior management team since 2008.

Geoff Moore has joined GE Asset Management as senior vice-president. He’s responsible for managing and growing the company’s institutional business in the Canadian market and brings more than 20 years of experience in the asset management industry.

Heather Munroe-Blum has been appointed chair of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). She will take over the role from Robert Astley, whose term expires in October. Munroe-Blum has served on the board of directors of the CPPIB since 2011 and is currently a member of its HR and compensation committee.

Lori Park has returned to Mercer Canada and will take on the role of office leader for Halifax. She was previously at Bell Aliant for two years. Prior to that, she was at Mercer for more than 13 years.

Jeremy Rudin will replace Julie Dickson as head of the Office of Superintendent of Financial Institutions effective June 29. Rudin is currently the assistant deputy minister of the financial sector policy branch of the Department of Finance.

Kim Siddall has joined Aon Hewitt as an associate vice-president. She has more than 20 years of experience in the health and benefits industry and is a director for Manitoba on the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute board.

John Valentini has been appointed interim president and CEO of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, following the departure of Gordon Fyfe. He is currently the organization’s executive vice-president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

Janice White, formerly a senior consultant with Towers Watson, is now a senior consultant with Aon Hewitt. She’s worked in the pension industry for more than 20 years.
