Colin Ripsman, former vice-president of institutional client service at Foyston, Gordon and Payne Inc., has launched a specialty investment consulting firm.
Based in Toronto, Elegant Investment Solutions Inc., will offer investment consulting and governance services for defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans, foundations and endowments.
“There’s a real benefit from a client perspective to work with somebody that provides specialty investment consulting expertise. I think it’s an area of expertise and specialty all on its own,” says Ripsman. “Additionally, I think a key element underpinning investment consulting is governance, and that’s why those two practices go hand in hand. My experience . . . enables me to properly manage specialty mandates like this.”

Prior to his time at Foyston, Gordon and Payne, Ripsman was a principal in investment consulting at Eckler Ltd. and a vice-president and institutional portfolio manager at Phillips, Hager & North Investment Management.
Ripsman is looking forward to working directly with employer clients in his new role. “Working at a small consulting firm gives you more opportunity to build close relationships with your clients, focus more on the clients and less on the business.”
