Re: Manitoba, the sooner we amend our constitution to prohibit opting out of national income programs, the better. For historical reasons dating to 1965, grandfathering of the QPP should be the only exception. Non-standardization in fields ranging from health care, to pension regulation, to securities regulation, to auto insurance personal injury benefits has evolved to the point where the descriptor “Canadian” has begun to lose its meaning. If our Prime Minister wants to make his mark, why not convene a National Harmonization task force. It will be one of the few such study groups whose cost Canadians would uniformly agree was worth the money.
