Dr. Heather Munroe-Blum was appointed late last week to the to the board of directors of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB).

Munroe-Blum is the principal and vice-chancellor of McGill University and has extensive academic, financial, communications and stakeholder mediation experience.

Directors of the CPPIB are selected from a list of qualified candidates, submitted by a joint federal-provincial nominating committee and appointed by the federal government.

The committee, which is currently chaired by former Enbridge CEO Brian MacNeill, is comprised of 10 members: one appointed by each of the nine participating provinces and one appointed by the federal government.

The CPPIB operates at an arm’s length from the government and is responsible for investing Canada Pension Plan investment funds in a diversified portfolio of assets to serve the best interests of CPP contributors and beneficiaries.
