OMERS’ infrastructure arm ups stake in British utilities company

The infrastructure arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System is increasing its investment in Britain’s largest water company.

OMERS Infrastructure is purchasing an additional 4.36 per cent interest in Kemble Water Holdings Ltd., the holding company of Thames Water Utilities Ltd., from Hermes Investment Management.

In March 2017, OMERS Infrastructure together with the Kuwait Investment Authority’s infrastructure investment branch, Wren House Infrastructure Management Ltd., took on a 26 per cent stake in Kemble.

Thames Water is Britain’s largest water and wastewater services provider, serving 15 million customers, according to the company’s website.

Expected to close by the end of the year, the transaction will boost OMERS’ interest in Thames Water to approximately 27 per cent.
