The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) wants New Brunswick to slow down the current pension reform process.
The institute opposes the government’s plan to replace the current plan with a shared-risk pension plan (SRPP).
In a meeting with Finance Minister Blaine Higgs on Thursday, PIPSC president Gary Corbett emphasized that the loss of required benefits, an increase in employee contributions and other changes are unacceptable to its members.
“Minister Higgs and his government’s approach to pension reform will have serious negative consequences for the retirement security of past, present and future public service employees in New Brunswick as well as in other jurisdictions,” said Corbett.
PIPSC represents 60,000 public sector professionals and scientists across Canada’s public sector, including more than 400 employees in New Brunswick.
