Harpinder Sandhu has overseen some of the largest capital pools in Canada. He’s a plan partner and on the board of trustees at the BC Public Service Pension Plan, a role he’s held for 11 years. He’s also the investment committee chair and on the board of trustees at the BC Municipal Pension Plan, where he helps steward more than $130 billion in total assets. He works to ensure proper investment governance, appropriate risk assessment and sustainable growth.

Sandhu’s track record includes participating in valuation cycles, pension redesigns, responsible investment leadership and asset class allocations that deliver both long-term returns and broader economic impact. He also sits on the board of TransLink and was formerly on the board of the Shareholder Association for Research and Education. He’s also a founding member of the Canadian Capital Stewardship Network, now the Labour Working Group, with a focus on asset manager engagements, housing affordability, trustee education and labour investor mobilization.

Globally, Sandhu was committee chair of the U.N. Principles for Responsible Investment’s Western North America chapter from 2016 to 2024, positioning him at the forefront of environmental, social and governance issues and investment best practices in sustainability. His thought leadership has been recognized at major forums, including as keynote speaker at the Global Unions Committee on Workers’ Capital conference and, more recently, as a contributor to the International Centre for Pension Management working group report on domestic investments.

Sandhu is an alumnus of Simon Fraser University with degrees in geography and economics. He also holds the Institute of Corporate Directors’ directors designation from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, equipping him with strong governance and board leadership expertise.
