Paul Smith, partner, Stewart McKelvey

Paul Smith is a partner at Stewart McKelvey in the Saint John, New Brunswick office. He has an undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics and graduated from the faculty of law at the University of New Brunswick in 1987. He was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 1988.
Smith’s practice is focused primarily in areas of corporate governance, pension investment and trusts. He acts as general counsel to the administrators and investment managers of various government and institutional pension plans and other public bodies and provides ongoing advice on investment issues as well as governance and general corporate issues. Throughout more than 35 years of practice, Smith has been consulted by various national and international organizations on corporate governance and corporate finance matters. He has drafted and contributed to public and private statutes relating to corporate, trust and pension matters in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Smith has been chair of the New Brunswick Law Foundation and sits on the board of the New Brunswick Law Society’s insurance reserve fund and chairs its audit and finance committee. He has served on the board of the IWK Health Centre and as chair of Stewart McKelvey’s partnership board.
