Gary Timlick, chair, investment committee, Winnipeg Civic Employees’ Benefits Program

Over the course of a more than 40-year business career, Gary Timlick has had broad experience in strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, strategic asset sales, investment management and enterprise risk management. He has held senior level management positions in a diverse group of industries, including public accounting, agriculture, manufacturing and insurance. He retired in 2019 after 11 years as the chief financial officer of Wawanesa Insurance, one of the largest property and casualty insurance companies in Canada.

Timlick lived most of his life in Winnipeg, besides a two-year term working for Deloitte in Sydney, Australia. He has been a committed community volunteer and, in 1992, was awarded the commemorative medal for the 125th anniversary of the confederation of Canada by the governor general in recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and Canada.

He’s currently on the Peace Hills General Insurance Co. board, owned by the Alberta Samson Cree Nation; Red River Co-op board, a Winnipeg-based co-operative that supplies groceries and fuel; and is chair of the investment committee for the City of Winnipeg Employees’ Benefits Program.
