Paul Eckford, chief scientific officer, Cystic Fibrosis Canada

Paul Eckford holds a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Guelph and has spent most of his career studying cystic fibrosis. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Christine Bear at the Hospital for Sick Children, studying the function of purified reconstituted cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator protein and its interaction with CFTR modulator drugs, before moving into a leadership role managing several multi-investigator CF projects at SickKids, including Cystic Fibrosis Canada and SickKids’ joint program in individualized therapy. In June 2021, Eckford joined Cystic Fibrosis Canada as program director, research, where he helped to develop the organization’s new research strategy, Momentum, and managed all research programs including the organization’s annual research funding competition, before assuming the role of chief scientific officer.
