Who we are – The Pension Office Corporation is a growing not-for-profit organization that administers pension and benefit plans of The Anglican Church of Canada. The Pension Office oversees assets of more than $1 billion, works with more than one hundred participating employers, and supports over six thousand plan members. The General Synod Pension Plan (GSPP) is a multi-employer Target Benefit Plan which had a funding ratio of more than 130% on a going concern basis on December 31, 2021. The GSPP is actively expanding its pension coverage to organizations beyond the Anglican Church.

The Opportunity - The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the General Synod Pension Plan (GSPP), the employee benefit plans of the Anglican Church of Canada, and the General Synod Continuing Education Plan. This position acts as the public face of the plans within the Anglican Church of Canada and externally. The Executive Director leads marketing activity to attract new employers to join the pension plan.

The Executive Director manages the Pension Office with its complement of eleven staff and has oversight for all services provided for plan members and participating employers. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees and interacts regularly with the Pension Committee and the Council of the General Synod. Occasional travel across Canada is required.

The plans are governed by federal and provincial legislation and regulations as well as the Canons and regulations of the Anglican Church of Canada. Plan governance, oversight of investments, and administration are core responsibilities of the incumbent.

We are seeking someone with:

• University degree or equivalent business experience in one or more areas of business administration, personnel management, finance, investments, actuarial science, or corporate governance.
• Strong background in pension and employee benefit administration at a senior level and a solid understanding of multi-employer pension plans.
• A passion for client service excellence to participating employers and their employees.
• The ability to promote the benefits of the General Synod Pension Plan to encourage prospective new groups to join the plan.
• Experience managing and supervising staff.
• Strategic leadership skills.
• Experience engaging with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Experience overseeing service providers, negotiating benefit plans and pricing, and interacting with external investment managers, actuaries, consultants, legal counsel, and information technology specialists.
• Appreciation of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
• Understanding of and appreciation for the values, history, and structure of the Anglican Church of Canada would be an asset.
