UBC Staff Pension Plan & UBC Faculty Pension Plan -- Executive Director, Pensions

The University of British Columbia sponsors two of Canada’s premier pension plans. The Staff Pension Plan (the SPP), established in 1972, is a target benefit pension plan. The plan has over 15,000 members and $2.3bn in assets. The Faculty Pension Plan (the FPP) is the largest defined contribution plan in BC with over 6,700 member accounts and $3.0bn in assets.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees of the UBC Faculty Pension Plan and to the Board Members of the UBC Staff Pension Plan, the Executive Director leads all activities relating to the administrative operations of the FPP and SPP. The Executive Director’s mandate is the following: Provide expertise to the Boards to ensure the plans are administered in accordance with trust and plan documents; Stay current and involved in pension and investment industry trends; establish short- and long-term objectives and goals for the plans; oversee effective and accurate member communication, and act as the primary point of contact for the plans’ service providers, stakeholders, and partners.
The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated track record of success as a pension lawyer, actuary, or plan administrator who has provided strategic policy advice to a public or private sector pension plan in a complex environment. Strategic and proactive, the preferred candidate will demonstrate superior interpersonal skills and financial acumen.
This is a rare opportunity to lead two of Canada’s most highly regarded defined contribution and defined benefit pension plans. The successful candidate will work on the grounds of the University of BC in Vancouver.
