Barbara Sanders, associate professor in statistics and actuarial science, Simon Fraser University

Barbara Sanders is an actuarial educator and researcher. After spending eight years in pension consulting, Sanders joined Simon Fraser University where she’s associate professor in the department of statistics and actuarial science. She also co-leads the Pension Centre of Excellence, a knowledge-exchange platform within the National Institute on Ageing at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her primary research interest for the past 15 years has been the effective design, management and regulation of risk sharing in workplace pension plans. Sanders is actively involved in public policy discussions surrounding pensions: she chaired the Canadian Institute of Actuaries’ task force on target-benefit plans, is currently vice-chair of the CIA task force on variable payment life annuities and is a member of the C.D. Howe Institute’s pension policy council. Sanders holds a bachelor of science in mathematics, a masters of science in actuarial science and is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
