Gary Hutch, chief investment officer and executive vice-president of investments, Plannera Pensions and Benefits

As chief investment officer, Gary Hutch leads a team of investment professionals supporting a range of pension and benefits plans with nearly $17 billion in assets. He has more than 25 years of institutional investment experience, including 20 years with Plannera Pensions and Benefits. Since 2016, Hutch has led investment strategy, implementation, monitoring and reporting activities for the Public Employees Pension Plan and the Municipal Employees’ Pension Plan.

He oversees the work of more than 100 external investment managers across asset classes ranging from Canadian and foreign equities to real estate and private markets. The PEPP has 75,000 members and more than $13.7 billion in assets, making it Canada’s largest defined contribution pension plan. The MEPP has 29,000 members and more than $4 billion in assets.

Hutch is a chartered professional accountant and holds an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Regina.
