Shawna O'Hearn, co-director, founder, Menopause Society of Nova Scotia

Shawna O'Hearn is an occupational therapist and geographer with a PhD focused on perimenopause among Canadian health professionals. Her leadership roles span government, universities and non-governmental organizations both in Canada and abroad, shaping her commitment to equity, community engagement and systemic change. O'Hearn draws on international experiences in Africa, India, the West Indies and Nunavut to inform culturally sensitive and accessible approaches.

O'Hearn is dedicated to breaking the silence around menopause, reducing stigma and fostering inclusive workplaces where women feel seen and supported. She leads menopause support groups and manager training at Dalhousie University and co-leads the Menopause Society of Nova Scotia, creating spaces for dialogue, education and empowerment.

With a bold and energetic voice, O'Hearn inspires teams and communities to build workplaces and societies where women are supported through every life stage. Her mission is clear: empower women with knowledge, confidence and connection to thrive without stigma or silence.
