The Medavie board of directors has appointed Michael B. Decter as the new board chair.
He replaces outgoing chair Steve Parker.
“Michael has been an invaluable member of our board of directors for some time. He is one of Canada’s leading experts on health systems and has an extensive background in the healthcare industry,” says Pierre-Yves Julien, CEO of Medavie. “He brings a great deal of knowledge to the role, and we’re fortunate to have him as our new chair of the board.”
Decter is a Harvard-trained economist with more than three decades of experience as a senior leader. He’s currently president and CEO of the investment management firm LDIC and previously served as deputy minister of health for Ontario and as a senior research scholar at the Joint Centre for Bioethics at the University of Toronto.
Decter was the founding chair of the Health Council of Canada and served for nine years as chair of Saint Elizabeth Health Care. He has authored three books focused on the healthcare system; the most recent title, Navigating Canada’s Health Care, co-authored by Francesca Grosso, was published in December 2006.
