Oliver becomes finance minister

Joe Oliver was sworn in as Canada’s new finance minister on Wednesday morning.

He was previously the natural resources minister. Oliver replaces Jim Flaherty who announced his resignation on Tuesday.

Prior to entering politics in Oliver has worked as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch, was executive director of the Ontario Securities Commission and was also the CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.

Prior to entering politics, Oliver worked in the investment banking industry. He started at Merrill Lynch and worked in senior positions at other investment dealers. Oliver also served as executive director of the Ontario Securities Commission and was president and CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.
