AIMCo appoints C. James Prieur to board of directors

Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) has appointed C. James (Jim) Prieur to its board of directors, effective July 1, 2016.

With more than 30 years of finance, investment management, risk management and international business experience., Prieur was chief executive officer of CNO Financial Group, Inc. from 2006 until his retirement in 2011.

Prior to joining CNO Financial Group, Prieur had been with Sun Life Financial since 1979. He began his career at Sun Life Financial in investments, and was named senior vice president and general manager for U.S. operations in 1997. In 1999, he became corporate president and chief operating officer, a position he held until joining CNO Financial Group.

While at Sun Life Financial, Prieur managed multiple lines of business, including life, annuities and health products in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Asia.

AIMCo chair, Mac Van Wielingen said the pension fund is very pleased with the appointment, adding: “I, and my colleagues, look forward to welcoming Jim, and to working together to build upon AIMCo’s commitment to our clients, and to continue to advance ourselves as a leading institutional investment manager.”

In addition to his position on AIMCo’s board, Prieur is also on the board of directors of Manulife Financial Corp. and Ambac Financial Group, Inc. In addition, he is a member of the president’s circle of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and The Pacific Council on International Policy.
