Mercer announces investment and retirement business appointments

Mercer Canada has announced a series of new appointments, including Jaqui Parchment as senior partner and leader of its investment business for Canada, Teresa Palandra as partner and leader of its retirement business in Western Canada and the Toronto consulting office, and Phil Barnett as a senior compensation consultant and leader of the Energy Vertical for Canada.

Parchment brings more than 25 years of experience in the areas of retirement savings and investment, and is also an associate of the Society of Actuaries and is on the faculty of the School of Pension Investment Management.

Palandra, who brings more than 20 years of experience providing strategic advisory services to a wide range of clients in different industries, has proven success in the financial management, design, risk management, plan governance and administration of pension plans. She is also a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Barnett, who is based in Mercer’s Calgary office, joins the company with more than 15 years of experience designing, leading and optimizing human resources functions, processes and programs to drive corporate strategy, with a focus on the energy industry. He has implemented and communicated significant changes to various human resources programs, including salary structures, performance management systems, short- and long-term incentives, human resources policies and retention and engagement tools.

Barnett is a board member of a large Calgary-based not-for-profit where he serves on the human resources committee and is a past member of its governance and nominating committee. Prior to joining Mercer, he held various senior positions in rewards and compensation in the Calgary market, including roles at Talisman Energy Inc. and Towers Perrin (now Willis Towers Watson).
