B.C. medical plan premium increases take effect Jan. 1

Plans sponsors and members in British Columbia are reminded of the BC Medical Services Plan premium increases that will come into effect in a couple of weeks.

As Aon Hewitt reports in its latest Monitor, effective Jan. 1, 2011, maximum monthly Medical Services Plan premiums will increase by $3.50 to $60.50 for single persons and by $7.00 to $109.00 for two person families and to $121.00 for families of three or more persons.

Under British Columbia’s Medical Protection Act, premiums are required on or before the last day of the month proceeding the period for which the beneficiary is enrolled. Therefore, new premium amounts are required to be submitted before the end of the month for January coverage.
