Canadian contractor for Obamacare website blames glitches on Washington

CGI Federal—the Canadian company that is the main contractor for the new Obamacare website—says the U.S. government bears ultimate responsibility for all of the glitches plaguing the new healthcare benefits website, according to published reports.

At a Thursday hearing in Washington, the Canadian technology giant said it did nothing wrong and is therefore not to blame for the technical problems that have made online registration difficult or impossible, reports the Toronto Star.

A CGI Federal representative said during the hearing that integrated testing of the online platform happened only in the last two weeks of September. The site was made accessible to the public on October 1, but the Canadian company said it made no recommendations to the U.S. government about using October 1 as the launch date.

The vendor reportedly said the system will be improved so that people can sign up for healthcare by December 15 in order to start receiving benefits at the beginning of January 2014.
