Quebec pharmacists consider banning loyalty cards

The Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec is looking at ways to ban drug loyalty cards in the province.

Manon Lambert, the director general of the organization, told La Presse that it would look into whether or not the cards violate its code of ethics.

Drug companies are offering loyalty programs to buy brand name medication at or near the same price as the equivalent generic medication.

However, private plans don’t receive the discount and must pay more each time a plan member chooses a brand name drug.
