The Ontario Medical Association(OMA)has selected Sun Life Financial Canada as the insurer for its optional health plan for physicians, effective January 1, 2008.

This program was negotiated by the OMA and is the result of the 2004 – 2008 Physician Services Agreement.

The plan will be available to more than 20,000 physicians currently practising in Ontario. Annual premium under this plan is approximately $25 million.

Features include a health spending account, extended healthcare and critical illness insurance that will be made available to members in a variety of combinations.

“Sun Life helped us meet our objectives of offering benefits that are often difficult to obtain on an individual basis, ensuring benefits are available regardless of a physician’s medical history, and providing enough flexibility to ensure every eligible physician can participate in the program,” says Jacques Rocheleau, managing director of the OMA Insurance Services department.
