Former CalPERS chief investment officer, Russell Read, will address a group of investment professionals and managers in Montreal on March 29th as part of a new speaker series called EYE4IMPACT. The series aims to explore the emerging asset class of impact investments and social entrepreneurship. In 2008 Read founded C Change Investments, a fund manager focused on energy and materials and the changing dynamic of how they are produced, distributed and consumed. He will talk about “The Next Wave in Effective Green Investing.”
Impact investing is making inroads in the institutional investment space, according to Geoffrey Moore co-founder and CEO of TBC Capital Inc., a Montreal-based financial services firm with a mandate to provide investment strategies and solutions with a focus on impact investments.
Business and investment opportunities are extremely large, Moore says. “For example, a recent report by JP Morgan and The Rockefeller Foundation shows many opportunities for investors to benefit from impact investments while also contributing to resolving pressing social and environmental problems at home and around the world.” Moore adds that EYE4IMPACT will attempt to explore related themes along with potential roles for social entrepreneurs through impact investments.
