Franklin Templeton Investments Corp. has appointed Sonal Desai as chief investment officer of its fixed income group, effective Dec. 31, 2018.

With more than 10 years at the investment firm, Desai joined in 2009 as director of global macro research. Previously, she was an economist at Thames River Capital and director and senior economist at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein in London. She’s also worked for the International Monetary Fund and started her career as an assistant professor of economics at the University of Pittsburgh.

“Sonal Desai brings tremendous thought leadership and well-rounded expertise, cultivated through her experience in academia, with the IMF and as an economist, combined with her many years of managing portfolios and leading our global macro research team,” said Jenny Johnson, president and chief operating officer of Franklin Templeton Investments, in a press release.

Desai is replacing Chris Molumphy who’s set to retire at the end of the year. Calvin Ho, formerly senior vice-president of global macro and research analyst, will replace Desai.
