Gaining liquidity in illiquid private asset programs

Many institutional investors today are faced with an over-allocation to their private asset allocation versus their investment policy. This over-allocation to private assets has forced many investors to either implement a temporary policy reprieve, halt new investment activity or sell assets in the secondary market. What other remedies or preventions can be implemented to mitigate future denominator effects and help investors increase control and source liquidity when they need it to keep their investment programs going? This session will explain how institutional investors have used listed assets to gain a comparable exposure to their private assets and use the securities as a liquidity buffer to remain nimble and take a more dynamic approach to total portfolio management.

Speakers:

Samantha Cleyn, head of institutional sales and service, BMO Global Asset Management

Mark Webster, director, ETF distribution, institutional sales and service, BMO Global Asset Management

Trading places: Emerging markets vs. developed markets

In a climate where Chinese equities are remarkably volatile and the U.S. dollar remains strong, this session will aim to provide a thoughtful examination of the economic indicators that are pivotal in shaping both developed and emerging markets, with a particular focus on inflation and debt-to-GDP ratios. It will explore the multifaceted interactions and dependencies between these markets, using real-world stock examples, to demonstrate how these markets interact and respond to global economic shifts. It will also provide investors with valuable insights to help them assess the potential benefits of integrating a volatile yet rewarding asset class into their investment portfolios.
