AIMA Canada forming new executive committee

The Canadian chapter of the Alternative Investment Management Association is forming its new 2020-22 executive committee.

Belle Kaura, vice-president of legal and chief compliance officer at Third Eye Capital, will remain chair for a second term, joined by Rob Lemon, executive director of the prime services group at CIBC Capital Markets, as deputy chair, who was a board member for the 2018-20 term.

“The AIMA Canada executive committee plays a pivotal leadership role in promoting and shaping the Canadian alternatives industry,” said Kaura in a press release. “I am honoured to be re-elected as chair of AIMA Canada and to serve alongside the newly elected executive committee to continue to advance the interests of our world-class industry through advocacy and education.

“We embrace the opportunity to deliver on our mission during this next phase of growth and innovation in Canada at a time when the value of alternatives as part of a balanced portfolio is undeniable. We extend our sincere gratitude to outgoing members for their significant contributions during their tenure.”

Derek Hatoum, partner in the audit and assurance group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, will be treasurer and Darin Renton, partner at Stikeman Elliott LLP, will be general counsel.

The other members to make up the executive committee as of September 2020 will be:

  • Stéphane Amara, director of institutional business development and client relations for Canada at Allianz Global Investors;
  • Peter Boffo, managing director for prime brokerage at TD Securities Inc.;
  • Daniel Dorenbush, managing director and head of Canadian prime services at Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets;
  • Chris Farkas, partner and national asset management leader for management consulting at KPMG LLP;
  • Kimberley Jansen, managing director of global equity finance and prime brokerage at BMO Capital Markets;
  • Elissa Johnson, vice-president of international fund services at State Street Corp.;
  • Wendy Kang, vice-president at Citco (Canada) Inc.;
  • Jeff Ray, vice-president of product development at Mackenzie Investments;
  • Raj Tandon, founding partner at Algonquin Capital;
  • Liam O’Sullivan, principal and head of client portfolio management at RP Investment Advisors;
  • Claire Van Wyk-Allan, director and head of Canada at the AIMA.

“Against the backdrop of a global pandemic, investor education, operational best practices, regulatory support and navigating trends like [environmental, social and governance issues] and diversity and inclusion remain critical to our members,” said Van Wyk-Allan.
