The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec plans to expand its global presence, according to president and CEO Michael Sabia.
In a speech delivered to the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations on Monday, he said the organization plans to expand its New York office and open a satellite office in Washington, D.C. The Caisse will also open an office in Mexico to serve as a bridgehead to Latin America.
In Asia, it plans to open a regional office in Singapore, which will serve as a hub in Asia, and eventually open branches in Mumbai and Sydney. The Caisse already has an office in Beijing.
“There are many good reasons why we need a foothold on the ground,” he explained. “There is one reason that is particularly important to me—that our people assigned to these positions can become immersed in the business culture of these regions of the world and develop networks of contacts.”
The Caisse also intends to enable Quebec companies to benefit from global growth by identifying and investing in promising companies that can expand in world markets and putting its global capacities to work with exporting companies.
