Canadian employers expect a mild hiring climate in the fourth quarter of 2013, with employers in the construction sector reporting the strongest prospects, according to a survey.
The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey of more than 1,900 Canadian employers reveals that 16% plan to increase their payrolls in the fourth quarter of 2013, while 8% anticipate cutbacks.
Seventy-four percent of employers expect to maintain their current staffing levels, and 2% are unsure of their hiring intentions for the upcoming quarter.
Job seekers in Western and Atlantic Canada are likely to benefit from a steady hiring climate from October to December.
Those seeking employment in Ontario are expected to find some opportunities, while the hiring climate in Quebec is expected to be modest.
“Overall, we’re seeing a trend of more companies hiring workers on a temporary or contract basis with relatively few choosing to hire full time,” says Byrne Luft, vice-president of operations for Manpower Canada.
