Starting in 2019, Etsy Inc. employees will be allowed to trade in up to 14 weeks of parental leave for a cash payment to help with childcare or other family-friendly support as they return to the workplace.
The e-commerce company is also introducing access to back-up childcare services, extending paid family leave to all global staff and is providing the option to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave to care for a close family member dealing with a serious health problem or to assist family when a member is deployed abroad on military service. As well, it will be allowing all global employees to obtain discounts at a network of gyms and programs next year.
Etsy will make additional changes in 2019, following feedback from employees, noted a blog post by Raina Moskowitz, its senior vice-president of people, strategy and services. “We’ve already heard from employees how excited they are about these new benefits and we’re thrilled to give employees various ways to care for themselves and their families,” she wrote.
Currently, the organization offers 26 weeks of parental leave, a paid sabbatical program and employee health insurance with no monthly premiums. These benefits help Etsy with attraction and retention, as well as with rewarding employees and supporting them throughout various life stages, noted Moskowitz.
