Hamilton joins C.D. Howe

Malcolm Hamilton has been appointed senior fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute. He will focus on HR policy, with a special emphasis on pensions and retirement savings.

Hamilton recently retired from Mercer where he was most recently partner.

Hamilton has been a thought leader in the pension industry for much of his career. Among many of his career successes, Hamilton chaired a Canadian Institute of Actuaries taskforce in the early 1990s that wrote a report titled “Troubled Tomorrows,” which described the looming demographic bulge and its impact on pensions. The report was a contributing factor to good policy decisions by the government, which saw a reduction in government debt and increased funding of the Canada Pension Plan and the Quebec Pension Plan.

In November, Benefits Canada presented Hamilton with its annual Lifetime Achievement award to recognize all his industry efforts.

“Malcolm Hamilton has dedicated his career to understanding and identifying various strategies to deal with retirement program challenges,” said Ted Singeris, president of Mercer Canada. “We congratulate Malcolm on this exciting next step in a distinguished career and are certain that he will continue to use his extensive knowledge base to add insight to the C.D. Howe research program.”
