Caroline Helbronner, a partner in Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP’s pensions, benefits and executive compensation group, was a recipient of a 2014 Lexpert Zenith Award: Celebrating Practice Area Excellence in the area of pensions and employee benefits.
She was the lead partner on pension, benefit and compensation issues in a half-dozen major files in 2013/14, including providing advice to Safeway Inc. on the $5.8-billion sale of its Canadian operations to Sobeys Inc., and to Nexen Inc. on the $15.1-billion sale to CNOOC Ltd.
Helbronner was also lead Blakes partner on pension, benefit and compensation matters for Akzo Nobel NV on the $1.05-billion sale of its North American Decorative Paints business to PPG Industries Inc., a Canada-U.S. cross-border deal in which pensions were a significant component of the transaction.
