Hub International acquires Ontario-based retirement, benefits firm

Hub International Ltd. has acquired Windsor, Ont.-based retirement and benefits firm the Benefits Company Inc.

The deal follows a recent string of acquisitions by Hub International over the past few months, including Burnaby, B.C.-based Pointbreak Consulting Group Ltd.; Kitchener, Ont.-based GMS Insurance Inc.; and Dallas, Texas-based IPS Advisors LLP.

“By joining Hub, brokerages have the opportunity to expand as Hub provides them the ability to move into more markets and offer more products,” wrote Mike Barone, president of Hub International’s employee benefits practice, in an email to Benefits Canada.

“Each of the recent companies joining Hub brought something that was mutually beneficial for both Hub and the acquired company as well as the marketplace.”

Barone added that Hub International is continually exploring companies to expand its geographic footprint, add to its talent base or provide a niche offering.

“The addition of TBC will greatly strengthen our retirement and benefits operations in Ontario,” said Greg Belton, executive chairman of Hub Ontario. “This partnership will benefit all of Hub Ontario’s clients and ensure client satisfaction is measured by both companies’ high level of service, continuous development of innovative concepts, and the relentless pursuit for the best solutions.”
