Canadian technology startup League has hired industry veteran Lori Casselman as its chief health officer.
The Sun Life Financial Inc. executive will fill a new role created at League to advance its employee benefits program. Besides her work in group benefits at Sun Life, Casselman has held positions on several health advisory boards and has worked at Buffett & Co., a health and wellness startup.

“The health-care system needs a multidisciplinary, consumer-oriented approach to address prevention, education and treatment opportunities,” said Casselman. “Technology can enable and empower consumers to understand and manage their own health in ways we have yet to imagine, and there is tremendous potential to change the traditional landscape of health benefits. I am so inspired by what League is building and what they’re aiming to achieve.”
League provides employers with mobile-friendly access to workplace wellness services, health spending accounts and extended health insurance to offer employees.
After receiving US$25 million in its latest round of funding, the technology startup plans to expand by offering drug plans, additional insurance coverage, employee assistance programs and occupational health and safety services.
