Morneau steps down from C.D. Howe Institute board

William Morneau, chair of the C.D. Howe Institute’s board of directors, has informed the board that he is resigning from the board, effective immediately.

“With my new role as an advisor to the Liberal Party of Canada, however, I believe that I should stand aside before the end of my term this May to ensure that the institute’s non-partisan reputation remains intact,” says Morneau, who is also executive chairman of Morneau Shepell.

William Robson, president and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, thanked Morneau for his services to the institute. “He understands the critical importance of non-partisanship and is doing the right thing by stepping down,” he says.

Hugh MacKinnon, CEO of Bennett Jones and a vice-chair of the board, will assume the role of acting chair.
